That is beautiful work robo! I'm going to have to take another look at the Homemade Acid Etching Fun Thread. Thanks for sharing your work. Karma 2 U.

A++++++++1 AWESOME man. Very impressed. The tape you used - is that the papery masking tape? I'll try that now.

Thanks Brenno. The tape I used was a painters masking tape. I think it is more water resistant than regular masking tape. I used a white brand because I wanted the pattern to stand out when I outlined it. I printed the pattern from my PC and rubbed a pencil on the back of the paper ( poor man's carbon paper ) and traced it onto the tape. Then I cut it out with the hobby knife. Worked sweet! Easy too. I just made sure the blade was very clean and oil free for the tape to stick well. It's up on my wall now, I dunno know about the plaque though... kinda looks like a paddle. ;D

I'm sorry about hijacking this thread somewhat, I'll delete this if desired. But... Could anyone give me advice on how to take this exact sword apart? I can't think of a good way to get past the peened pommel, and still be able to assemble it again. I'm sure I'd find the answer if I had a look around the forum, but I'm a bit lazy that way. Also wouldn't mind finding out how long it took you to sand the blade, Robo. Great work by the way, on the whole of the sword! [Edit] I'm asking 'cause I'm considering shortening it by a few centimeters, in addition to putting in similar work to what you've done.

You have to grind the tang down. (Best using an electric grinder, but files will work if you are patient) You will have to shorten the handle or the tang somewhat to get enough steel to peen it again. ShooterMike has done this before to his Hanwei Bastard Sword.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I best make darn sure I want to shorten the blade before I remove the peening then. The handle is short enough as it is, methinks.
