A few questions. Is that the windlass 1860? If so how do you feel it compares to the French 1833 replica? Also did you get the French from USA?

Both are quite nice for what they are. It depends on what you want. The gladius is meant to be used with a shield, in the first place, and in formation. My exemplar has a reground tip for robustness – it still penetrates very well, but now is – much – less prone to bending. The barong is meant for cutting, primarily, and does that well. The barong’s handle is great for powerful cutting and aligning the thrust. It is fun to handle, however, cutting orientated swords of that length are somewhat, well, problematic from a “fighting” perspective, imho. Both blades are very robust. Can’t go wrong with either if you like the style and want something to use hard and/or for constant training, without having to worry too much about maintenance etc. I thought the barong was meant to be a reasonable cut & thrust weapon which is why I was curious how it compared to the gladius. Do you feel the gladius is a better mix of the two then?

It’s miles above the 1833 (which I got from a French seller). The 1860 is the “best” sword of that length category I`ve ever tried. Nimble, yet powerful, good hand protection and the right amount of blade curvature. I was talking with you about this in the "cold steel cutlass machete" thread. looks like you finally decided to pull the trigger. seems like it was a good purchase for you?

Hi,
Quick question.
Have you cut or tried thrusting with the 1860 cutlass?
I found the last 1/4 of the blade quite flexible on mine, is it similar on yours?
Wondering if that effects it in the thrust.

Out of interest what is promoting the sale?
If I remember you said the handling was better than the Windlass replica or along those lines.
BTW I like what looks like a mounted CS warsword machete. I am annoyed they don't sell the machete in the UK.

Selling to finance my new stuff (and my offspring, of course, lol).
Mounting the CS CWSM on the CS Swiss halberd`s shaft was a fun project. Didn`t like the machete as it was – though not much of a fan of it now either, I must say
