No problem about the question. I'm the one posting a negative review.
The length was really the only surprise. I take full responsibility for that though because I probably made a mistake while measuring during the order process. I suspect though that the spec length is ballpark and can vary slightly from blade to blade.
I re-boxed it super quick for return when I realized it would not work to avoid any damage, so I neglected to take direct measurements, sorry. Did I mention that KoA's return policy is very generous?
My best guess measuring my arm right now (three times to avoid a mistake!) puts the blade length at about 22" to 23", being generous. It's possible that my slightly off-canter "ready position" is throwing off this guesstimate and that the blade isn't too far off from 24" to 25". But again, length was just one of several of the problems for me.
I took a calculated risk on how the weight, POB and other specs would translate to the feel. I gambled wrong. Frankly the reviews in this thread pushed me over the hump from uncertain to purchasing, which is why I felt compelled to post my counterpoint for future buyers. I'm not here to dump on other people's opinions, just temper them (>_o).
I know that feel is hard to translate from specs and get your point about how I should have interpreted the taper and POB. I definitely stared at them for a while. But I was just looking for a slight upgrade for use at tournaments and test cutting, not necessarily perfection, so I pulled the trigger hoping it would love it as much as others do. But for me, personally, it just ended up missing on all fronts. It was just too ephemeral in feel.
Thanks for the tip on the JKOO. The specs do seem a bit closer to what I want, although I'm probably looking for a dao an ounce or two heavier than that even. It's too late in this season to get in time for my remaining tournaments. But I'll definitely consider it next year.
For reference, the custom dao specs are - 30" approximate blade length (still being finish ground), 7" to 8" POB, 2.5 lbs final overall weight. Despite being a "pig" from the specs, it was effortless to spin and chop with when I got a chance to preview it (when it was actually closer to 3 lbs overall weight).
