Hello folks. It's been a few months since my last post. Been deployed since May. Anyways, my wife surprised me with a wonderful welcome home gift, a kaneie guardian from kult of Athena. Their last one. Once I have been settled back in in our new place I will be doing a review. Hope everyone is well.

That's sweet. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on it.

My first thoughts on it are very good. Its not perfect but it's not custom so I didn't expect it to be perfect. Id say it's 99% perfect. The blade has plenty of niku and geometric yokote which is nice. The fittings are remarkable. Not your average katana. Worth the price. More to come.

Here's one picture. I like the color scheme. Red and silver go pretty well.

I don't know when I will get around to doing a somewhat real review of this one. I just don't have the time to get in depth. So I will just post a few more pictures. This blade would make a nice heavy cutter. Good for medium to hard targets. Very healthy blade. Since I'm a collector and not really much of a practioner, I will not cut with it. The polish is to nice.

I'll get around to taking more pictures. After looking all over the web I think this was the last one for sale in the states. Except for a scratch and dent on kult of Athena. My wife talked to a representative at kult of Athena and told her that only 100 of these were made. Is this true? What happened to kaneie? Its sad they don't sell anymore in the US. These swords are very good.

These swords are very good. Long story short (at least the way I heard it) was that CAS Iberia got upset with Kaneie's owner and severed ties with him/Kaneie. Since CAS was the only Kaneie US importer, their swords are no longer being sold by anyone affiliated with CAS Iberia. There are probably still some out there available from smaller stores and/or individuals, but I doubt we'll see a large amount of Kaneie swords in the US any time soon. Beautiful sword BTW, I really like the color scheme/koshirae choice on your sword.

Thanks everyone. It is a wonderful gift. I had my eyes on this one and a skyjiro kumo. The blue one. And also a hanwei tiger elite. All things considered I'm glad she got me this one. I've read some less than stellar reviews about skyjiro and the hanwei tiger elite is nice but the so called ax handle throws the flow of the sword off a bit. Kaneie just gets everything right in my opinion. From a collector's point of view. I think I've drooled over most of their offerings, thanks to the samurai workshops archives.

More pics... The kissaki is the 1% I mentioned earlier. Its not perfect. The lines are not 100% symmetrical on one side. Its only off a hair but it's noticeable to me. Might not be to everyone. The geometric yokote is definitely there. This blades geometry has been done very well. It has nice niku and the ridge line is thicker than the back of the blade.
The habaki fits very well. You can tell that the habaki was made for this blade. Nice touch.
The saya fits perfectly. Absolutely no rattle and it has a nice snug fit on the habaki. It will not fall out.

Here's a little better picture. Mostly haniku but there is gradual convex all the way.

Very nice Katana, i own i Kaneie Black tiger. Its a very well balanced and light katana. Quality is nice ( more detailed then te "famous" hanwei ) I hope you have fun with it.
Indeed, bad Kaneie doesnt exist any more, they made well build katana's, there's a shop in Holland who has a few , the samurai workshop i believe.

I understand being a collector not a practioner. How ever to have that sword and never cut with would kill me. To each his own however and I understand your feelings.
