So recently my Maldon Seax from the Battlecry line from Windlass had its pommel and handle develop some wiggles so i decides to fix it from the source of the problem. So I'll also be taking this opportunity to so some customization on the handle. For now I thought i'd show what the inner workings of this particular product. Heres the guard, its very solidly attached with no gaps from the bottom even without the handle. The handle is interesting, i'm pretty sure the black stuff is Epoxy, it doesn't fill the entire handle which is where i think the handle failed since the thinner portion of the tang was just kind of floating lengthwise. More to come as i continue, i'm thinking i'm going to hammer the pommel further onto the tang, possibly solder it onto the base and hot-peen the gap down. **UPDATES** Heres the new peen. I hammered the pommel onto the tang before peening so it wont move around. I also wedged the gaps against the tang with some sheet metal i had laying around. So far i feel much more confident about it than the factory peen. I made a new handle out of wood from an old deconstructed piano. I believe its spruce which has high elasticity, so it should be durable AND acoustic.

I think the fittings look much better like that. I take it you left the entire blade black. Much better contrast, the originals just have too much black.

I removed enough of the blackening on the blade to make it look like actual metal rather than the marble look it comes with. I had to remove more on the fittings because i had to do some cleanup after blasting it with a torch, it looks pretty good though. This is what the blade looks like right now.

I agree with Verity...put 'em up. That's a very robust tang. May have to spring for one. I'm currently 'seax-starved'. ...Chris
