Albion Swords has a pretty stellar reputation for making superb production swords. I'm curious about the quality of the bare blades they sell on their site.
Does anyone have some experience with them they can share (positive or negative)?
Are these the same quality of blade (pre-finishing) that they use in their main lines?
There doesn't seem to be much information on the bare blades on the Albion page for them. They seem like a steal if they are produced to the standards of their finished offerings.

Ever have got one but from what I see you will have to do the final grinding and polishing yourself. The ad said off the mill.

Lonely Wolf Forge has bought a few that I know of - IIRC, he said basically what L Driggers (fallen) said too - rough finish, you have to complete it yourself.

I've worked on a few. As said, they come milled but the final shape and edges are not ground in. Distal taper is present and the ones I have seen all had diamond cross sections. Also, if you get a heat treated one, it will still have the scale on it.
Hope that helps, Alan

These pics (examples one, two, three, et al) from the Albion Bare Blades page look to me like they would need only a bit of finishing work before mounting, but you seem to be saying they are a lot rougher than this. Am I misunderstanding something?

The pictures I have looked at you can see heavy machine marks.

The resolution on the pics isn't great, but to me the tool marks look pretty light/shallow. They are certainly much more complete than roughed-out blade forms, and seem to be in need of only finishing work to my amutuer oculi.

It looks like it could use a polish and sharpening.

The pics on the Albion site appear to be of blades before heat treatment. The overall profile, distal taper, and initial shaping are done by the mill, so that is the state they are in. The edges on the ones I've worked with were about 1mm thick. I've only gotten heat treated blades, so I can't attest to how the grind marks are on the pre-HT blades, as you can't see them under the scale.
Hope that helps, Alan

expect deep machine marks and thick edges. they are not ready to just put a hilt on and sharpen. they are about 75% ground to what they need to be
