How well respected is Patrick Barta's work? I only ask because of this current post over at myArmoury.com myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=34200p.s. I am not thinking of buying this, nor am I affiliated with the seller in any way. I was just curious.

One of the very best. His reproduction of migration era swords are stunning and probably the best in the world.

In a word, extremely. He does some of the most gorgeous and historically accurate work out there.
PS. ...aaaaand it's gone. No wonder, at $1500 that was a hell of a steal!

While his classical and early euro swords are particularly esteemed he has a French 1st Empire Mounted Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard saber on his Index. I asked him if he would consider making one for me. Said he would be happy to, but unfortunately, he had a 3+ year waiting list for the commission.
I told him that at age 64 I would probably have to seek another remedy. :( ( I spent a lot more and got a real one instead. )
