I have sabre that i recently found packed away, i bought it about 10 or 12 years ago and forgot i had it. it's pretty light weight and has a good curve. the blade is sharp and appears to have undergone a bit of use there very shallow inlays that appear to have at one time been filled with gold as you can see that one is still gold filled. the hilt assembly is a bit unusual as you can see and the tang has the markings you see stamped on the upper edge.

That looks like a musicians sword. I think it is British. Last quarter of the 19th. Century, maybe earlier. Looks very nice. The hilt parts were gilded. Maybe you can see traces of the gilding in the deep parts. Sometimes the lion holds a ring in its mouth for a sword knot. The scabbard was made of copper plate. Not very thick, so most have considerable dents. Gold inlay in the blade eh? Very classy. I read somewhere that before and during the Crimean war drummer boys carried these. Drummer boys, 12 - 13 years old, were sacrosanct, as in untouchable. The Crimean war proved to be the end of that rule. The British never had drummer boys again.
Cheers.

thanks. I think it had a knuckle bow or chain that was broken and removed. the traces were filed and polished out pretty skillfully. there is a scabbard with this, but it's stored in another container. it had a throat that was half the length of the blade, and the lower half was probably leather, but is missing. I'll post a pic of the fitting when i locate it!

With the fasces and Pallas Athena motif on the langet and guard, I would think maybe not British but definitely in the order of a musician/band sword. The blade looks early.
