Hey guys .. Check this new windlass sword .. the Baron's sword .here's the description : The English barons were a bold and independent lot and rose up in arms against more than one king. We have named this impressive war sword in honor of these strong willed men. The long cutting blade is from fully tempered high carbon steel and the strong parts are also steel joined with a grip of wood, cord and leather. Though light enough to be swung with one arm this sword truly excels when used with both hands. Well-balanced and weighted. Scabbard included. Overall: 44-3⁄4" Blade: 36-1⁄4" long, 1-7/8" wide, 3⁄16" thick Wt: 3 lbs/6 oz here's the link: www.museumreplicas.com/museumreplicas/detail.aspx?ID=1871What do you think?? seems ans interesting sword , beautiful war sword and light ( i think so) , also am interested in the new Hanwei Mercenary sword .. which one will be the best choice?? ,, i hope that hanwei makes a good improvement in this sword as with the Henry V .. anyone knows if their pommels (hanwei) are peened?? well .. that's all .. peace!

How rediculously crap are the photos on the MR site? It's a wonder they sell any swords at all! I just go to Kult of Athena to get some decent views of Windlass swords.

Neat, but I'm a little worried about the blade being whippy at that length.

The Lionheart I just reviewed has a peened tang, and it's part of the same line as the Mercenary. I can't swear that the Merc is peened, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. If Blake (bpogue) from Hanwei doesn't respond to this thread, you could PM him and he could tell you for sure. I think mracheson may be right. You would likely have a better chance of a usefully stiff blade with the Mercenary.

Actually, I've had a chance to handle the Mercenary, and the good news is, that it's peened. Bad news? It's grip is quite overly large.

I remember it being fairly round in cross section. Would probably feel better with more of an oval design. All of the redesigned 'Iberia' swords now made by Hanwei are peened. Blake

Nice looking sword. They probably wanted to make a XVIIIa in the 14th century style. It would be nice if it had a bit more taper, but nice sword anyway. Definitely more of a cutter then thruster.

What about these new swords by MRL? What do you guys think? SWORD OF CORTENUOVA The effigy sword

I like the hilts on both, JP. Though the grip looks a bit thick on the Cortenuova, and I'm not very interested in thrust-oriented blades.

I like Cortenuova. It could be a nice fast cut and thrust sword and I like its rather simple hilt. Are there specifications for these new models?

There is a similar sword in the "Records of the medieval sword", Italian, type XII but it looks like it doesn't have a fuller, quite long grip, and it has just one side of the cross decorated with a ridge similar to this one... All in all, an interesting sword...
