G'day all, sorry I haven't posted much lately but I thought I'd share this with you all. About a year or so ago I commissioned a traditional Scottish Backsword from Rob Miller of Castle keep Swords in Scotland. Well I got an email update letting me know that he is near completion of the sword and about to move onto the scabbard and baldric. This is a progress photo before final assembly and grip completion. I've chosen a dark brown leather grip with wire binding and all a need to decide upon now is the point, leave it as it is or have it clipped with a false back edge? I'm leaning towards clipping it with a false edge but it also looks really nice as is. Im really impressed with this sword, to me it's just beautiful, becoming a bit of a dream come true.

Do as you see fit, but I would rather leave it as is. Quite a beautiful sword too, congrats Paul! Rob is a charming person to communicate with.

Now is the time to change it if you want to add something.

I rather like a tip similar to the one on Hanwei’s Scottish Basket Hilt Backsword with the false edge sharpened.

I assume when Rob says a clippoint / false edge, this is what he means. Both look great, I hate these sort of decisions.

I think it looks more distinctive as is but Rob will do a good job of it if he sculpts it more, you really cant go wrong. IMO though, I wouldnt want him to make any changes that might alter the temper there.
Great looking piece! The last bit of waiting is the hardest.

Well even though you'll never stab anyone with it, if you had to? Clip it!
My God that is so beautiful and can not wait to see your review.

I don't think I have ever seen a basket hilt backsword not have a false edge, there might be some out there but I have never seen one. But if you are just assuming what he means, then ask him to make sure what he means before you make your decision.

I can't wait to hear how it performs.
That tip looks sweet, a compromise between a symmetrical point for ease of thrust and having enough roll up the tip to not mess up the cut and though you wont have hooking stabs like a saber, you might have some decent, limited hook stabbing with that?
Theoretically an ace cutter and master stabber, I am seriously drewling like a starving dog looking at that sword. Bloody sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
