Oh Yeahhhhh.... B-B-B-B-b-b BAD TO DA BONE! B-B-B-B-b-b BADDDDD TO DA BONE! Italian Dragoon first put in service in 1831. 2.5 lb. Slight forward balance. BIG grip that you can put all of your hand into. What the US 1840 should have emulated. You have to like big cav sabers to enjoy this one. Up there with the British P1853, Swiss 1867, Danish/Swedish 1860s (French and Germans were still using the Pallasche. ) L to R: Swedish 1864, Swiss 1867, Spanish 1860, Italian 1860, German 1852, British 1853 L to R: British, German, Italian, Spanish, Swiss, Swedish

Congrats mate! I was eyeing that one myself on eBay. Didn't bid in the end because of the killer shipping to Canada -__-

How much was the shipping to Canadia if you don't mind? My shipping to California was just 35USD.

This sabre may have its younger brother (sister? I dunno) the M1871 by its side soon enough, I found a good looking one for relatively cheap on the ebay.

How much was the shipping to Canadia if you don't mind? My shipping to California was just 35USD. Shipping is usually around $50USD to Canada. For me the bigger problem is that sellers will often list their item to ship using eBay's "Global Shipping Program" (GSP). The idea of GSP is that the seller ships the item to an eBay warehouse. EBay acts as a middleman and passes the item on to the lowest cost carrier it can find. The idea is that the seller doesn't have to worry about getting the item through customs as that's all dealt with by eBay. The problem is that because some countries have restrictions on edged weapons, eBay puts a blanket ban on the shipment of edged weapons via the Global Shipping Program. It's frustrating because I can see the item, but if I try to bid on it, it will give me an error and won't let me bid. Also, a lot of sellers use UPS for international shipping, and that's all fine and dandy... assuming you work from home and are able to wait around 24/7 for the UPS man to show up. For those of us who, you know... have a job *gasp*, it's a lot more difficult. I think this particular seller had either GSP or UPS as listed shipping, and I was too lazy to message him asking to switch So there you go guys! If you want your item to sell internationally DON'T USE GSP!!!!

I'm not sure if it could be called a younger sibling? It is pipeback after all, so would be fundamentally different. I have the 1871 and it's quite a remarkable blade. It's not a LIGHT blade, but it feels much lighter than it's 35.5in length would make you believe. Also, that thumb-tab is a brilliant invention. Brilliant.

GSP sounds terrible! I didn't even know about that His shipping was via UPS. Are there no UPS stores in Canada? I think I remember seeing one in my town, but it might've just sold boxes and postage. I also might be thinking of ye Olde usps office. But yeah I definitely wouldn't have gone for it if the shipping would've been 50USD, too much for me to want a sword I just found out existed. But I thought of the 1871 of its younger brother because of the year of production. I didn't even think of the pipe back, but that makes sense.

Got mine today, that was much quicker than I thought it would be. I love this thing's handling, I think it may take my favorite place, at least next to my trusty Model Roberts.

The 22 Sep etd seemed pretty harsh. Glad you have it in hand. A saber form the last great age of the sword. (Pistols still used paper cartridges.)
Nite and day between the 1895 and the 1860. The 1860 morphed into the 1872 pipe backed dragoon.
Enjoy!

We have UPS stores here, but there is a size restriction as to what they will take (hint: its smaller than a sword). Also, GSP charges us an "import fee", which is ridiculous because there are no import fees between the US and Canada. There IS a sales tax, but conveniently GSP does NOT cover that. In other words, the "import fee" is really a cover for hosing us a bit more. I don't mind if you charge a brokerage fee, making money is your prerogative after all - just don't lie about what it is.

If I still owned it it would be! The 1860 is a beauty and a beast, unlike the very unbeastly but still quite dear to me Model Roberts. I really like the Italian needless to say
