Thanks.

Speaking of which, I just received two Assegai (short shaft) spears an hour ago, which I ordered from Optics Planet ($33 each) and did not think they would include the sheaths (as they were offered separately on the site). Lo and behold, the sheaths (Kydex, I believe) were included. I do not have one for my Boar, but at least you can cobble something together for travel and transport, so nobody gets cut or poked. Now, fashioning something that actually looks nice, I would (and I believe I will) follow the advice of pgandy.

That cool. I hate paying lots of money for sheaths and such.

Glad I ordered when I did as leather to me is friendlier. I’ve only examined Kydex. It appears more durable than leather and no doubt better suited for this humidity but I cannot become enthused with that hard plastic. So I’ll keep my leather well greased and keep on trucking with it. In a pinch there are several materials including cardboard, or better yet heavy card stock, and tape that can be used to make a sheath as a stop gap until something better comes along.

In a pinch there are several materials including cardboard, or better yet heavy card stock, and tape that can be used to make a sheath as a stop gap until something better comes along. I think I would like leather as well. The Kydex is EERILY efficient (slides in with NO movement at all), though it is a little hard to pull out. If I were using a spear like a professional hog hunter or something, you would probably have to go Kydex (water, sweat, humidity, snags, pig blood, etc...you get the gist). But, to me, leather is just more organic and better looking (great for occasional use). I simply must look into creating jerry rigged sheaths for my CS Sergeant's Halberd, English Bill, and decide if I should just fork over the money for the Boar sheath or continue the jerry rigging. My CS Lance point spear...no problem, I think I'll put a Jack In The Box Styrofoam ball on the top, which will look something like this... have a nice day (sheeple friendly) hiking staff. Little do they know the (potential) stabbing death that lurks beneath .
