I wanted to build a quality mace so I ordered this brass mace head from KOA: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=401000401&name=Brass+Mace+HeadI have a good haft, but I am not sure what the best way to go about attaching the head is. Is a simple friction fit best? I worry that giving a target a good thump could loosen the head. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I hafted the steel version a while ago. I rasped the end of the shaft to tightly fit (your shaft may already fit the interior diameter). I then drilled two small holes in the short length of socket. The plan was to then drill through the haft, fit a small rod through, and peen both ends. But... I did not align my drill holes well enough. No big problem. I used some long upholstery tacks. The final assembly was done by coating the inside of the head with a little 60 minute epoxy, tapping it down onto the shaft, and then tapping in the upholstery tacks. It is rock solid. I've bashed all manner of things, and have felt nary a wiggle.

Thanks for the the advice, although with your name I hesitate to take it. I have some brass rod I will try to pin and peen with. I have a couple of friends with drill presses so I will use one of those to keep the holes aligned.

Yup. A drill press would make my life sooo much better. I'd still put a dab of glue in there, but you have a good point about my name...

It's a funny name and apt here because without your advice, I would have tried to do drill it without a drill press.
