" Cold Steel is still offering $100 small swords (rust issue 2nds...and they are clearly not rapiers), " do you happen to have a link for these smallswords Lynn Thomson Special Projects, which is a part of Cold Steel (prices are much lower than the main site, particularly clearance, close outs, and factory seconds). I purchased a regular one from an internet sight for $190 something or other (a good deal), then saw Special Projects (and purchased two more at $100 each...(if only I saw it sooner) with just a bit of greenish rust on non critical areas that was easily whipped off). They are not in the factory seconds area, but the operator I talked to from Special Projects said they would be a class A (the least defective level), with B and C being progressively worse. I think these have been offered for quite some time, and I cannot believe they are not all snatched up yet, and believe that because they aren't on the technical "seconds" area, people don't see (as I didn't for some time).

Mind numbingly astronomical deal, and the best knife/sword deal ANYWHERE, period. The critique is they are a bit beefy (as is the CS breed), but still fall within historical specs. If you are in a duel with a fellow small sword master, then you would want it lighter, but against "other" things, this is actually a benefit, as its still light enough for all movements, and at blinding speed. I have three, and some feel livelier, and are lighter by an ounce or two and have a POB slightly closer to the guard.

Three and a half years later and I'm bumping while looking at my own post above. A recent post by Edelweiss pointed out these going down into the $250ish range have me interested and wondering if anyone recently handled and is it worthy (price point barrier now diminished)?

I would snag it but I have some other things in the rotation right now that I am interested in. I'm sure it's a good balanced thruster and it has nice detail. Just wonder if it's any good at more than just minimal slashing (probably not).

Tonight, someone will be lucky that I have been drinking. I think I am going to buy one of these purely on a stupid whim. A little mores than the $250 that someone mention some months back, but not a whole lot more.
I'm sure I'll have buyers remorse tomorrow, but hopefully the sword will be really cool and I will be happy once it is in my hands. To be totally honest, I don't even want it. Man.. I really must be drunk.. I really want a real rapier. Not a transitional smallsword.. somebody stop me! It's so short.. And it is much more like a prissy smallsword than a cool rapier. And I'm a little bit apprehensive about the smaller ricasso and large pommel. It's too bad that those sword 'seconds' of yesteryear don't seem to exist anymore. I must have missed some great deals.
I guess y'all will see this sword for sale if my sober self disagrees with tonight's purchase LOL

Due to several discounts I ordered one. Price here in Germany has fallen from incredible ridiculously overpriced to halfway normal overpriced.
More and more I started liking the Walloonish guard plates.
Unfortunately Dave Kelly deleted his original review but thanks God howler had quoted it before, so it's still there.
I was looking for a review and found this thread, but it's not in the official review-list.

Opps, I just quoted. you.

I think I remember at least one other of Dave's reviews you saved this way. I reported to the mods, that this review could be added to the list.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the sword when you receive it. I don't understand why people delete their reviews. I've run into that a lot on this particular forum..

It should arrive tomorrow. I'll tell my first impressions in the New Aquisitions thread. Some forumists quitting the forum perhaps think we're not worth to see their precious contributions any more. In Dave's case it was a unfortunate misunderstanding afaik.

In Dave's case it was a unfortunate misunderstanding afaik. The Windlass Christus Imperat Rapier is more authoritative, but the Cavalier is the stiffer of the two blades. Both have exceptional good looks. Considering the price of Albions they are a bargain and they come with sheaths

I'm interered how it compares it to my Kingston Arms Sidesword in terms of handling. This sidesword feels a bit rapieresque, could be a Meyer's German "rappier" . And the Cavaliers Rapier as a "transitional rapier" is a classic German/European degen. I hope it's at least a little bit cut and thrust capable. If so I'll call it "haurappier"!

I don't understand why people delete their reviews. I've run into that a lot on this particular forum.. A few years back there was a big purge of image-heavy posts and threads, because we were running low on server space. Old threads were the first to go, that hadn't seen the light of day in a year or more, but at one point something went buggy and a bunch of new stuff was accidentally wiped. Some members removed their own reviews due to hosting. Photobucket, for instance, used to be completely free. Then they started charging to host, and blocking even hyperlink images, so people just deleted their posts rather than leave them up with broken or absent photos. In this particular case, it looks like time has left things well enough alone as far as the quoted post, but it looks like the original was deleted. Anyway, old thread is old. Let's get some new info in here, at least. ...someone else do it, I'm broke.
