Anybody have or had one of these? I bought one right after they came out. Liked the look did not like the feel. 1/4 basket just did not seem to go with the blade. Thoughts on this??? I did find a thread of inquiry in Fantasy forum but The reason I ask here is that it is meant to be a renaissance saber as drawn up by Creeds makers, as per communication with Windless.

Sure thing, Joe Pittman!
You'll get initial impressions and what I end up doing with this thing overtime. The longer handle is 50% why i jumped on this. I like Indian hook hilts and I like basket hilts and want to make a hybrid out of this thing that serves for me to utilize techniques of multiple styles with it, That hook hilt plays into Arnis close in work and the length allows for two had assisted techniques.
The blade looks sweet. I'll see how it performs. By sight I might drop the point a little but I have to wait till I get the thing as it might thrust in straight just fine.
I've never played the video game, my 13 year old son is more excited about that aspect than I am for sure.

A Basket hilt would probably go well with this blade, here is my shiavona

Nice blades!
Yes, like your basket with a hook hilt. I have to see how it's put together first before I make a bunch of plans, but the guard it has strikes me as BS but I could build on it with heavy gauge steel wire in wraps if I want to go primitive and keep a blacksmith out of it.

Well I bought it from forum member dchisenh Sunday night and it's been here since 4:20pm and it's already drank watermelon juice.
Big melon, mounted on bamboo, it slid down a tad at first. First cut was a #1 with the first 1.5th of the blade from the point off of a hih guard with maybe 40% power. It took the melon's top off in a diagnal section stopping at the bamboo pole. The second was a #7 with about 60-70% power that split the rest of melon in two and the bamboo poll was spilt down to about my stomach level. No damage to blade, no marks other than melon juice and some burn from the bamboo. wiped and gone.
Damn this is a nasty weapon! Stabs great too! It just needs the defense tests ( aluminium bat) and I'd consider it battle ready.
The handle is nice, I like it. I do wish it was slanted downward a bit more. big deal and I am going to build on the guard to make it better and put some more weight in this things ass. I don't think I am going to mess with the blade tapper at all but I will sharpen the back edge for 4-6"
The thickness of blade at the hilt is just shy of 3/16" and still bigger than 1/8" 3/4s down the blade, but the cutting edge's tapper is sweet.
A Katana and a Saber crossed, had a baby with 30 and 3/8" cutting edge and a small ricasso a tad over 1/4". It's 1 and 3/8" wide at the beginning of the edge and at the 5.5" POB the blade is 1 and 1/4" wide, at the 9" from the tip POP it's 1" exact.
It would figure that my best saber made in this century would be a fantasy saber, not a replica. The bavarian still feels much nicer and i have yet to sgharpen her and test her seriously as a cutting weapon. This after some modding might be more of the go to saber.
It feels very much like Irondog's 1889 but it's shorter for sure.
That's my quick review. When it's modded, there will be more.
Time to get some training in before I have to teach a private and then a class.

dchisenh also put a sweet edge on this thing. probably what Dave Kelly calls' Military grade. Not a razor, but damn sharp. I could halfwords it, with a good grip.
It's sharp the whole way, really reflectsa the Katanaism of the thing. That's cool. I typically want thick bottom edges for the first 3rd of the blade from the hilt but this is a nice blade and my CS Mort is sharp all the way too. I did get this with the idea of making a "Backsaber" of it. Elements of the 2 types of European post Renascence sword types together with a handle that allows me to do more..
I'm happy
dchisenh went above and beyoned in all of this. A great guy to deal with on a sale. He also put it in a great box with packing bubbles, the sword was nice and safe. And he sharpened it before sending it, above and beyond IMO and I thank him for it. He did a nice job of it.
Thanks, dchisenh!

Thank you Darth for the kind words. I'm glad you like the sword and I think you hit the nail on the head as far as it being katana-ish and saber-ish, that's the exact thing I thought when I first saw it. I can't wait to see what you end up doing with it and I'm glad it's found a good home where it'll get to see some action! -Dan

Well that is good to read. Glad U are happy with the Ezio I think U will find the hooks a bit too close for dropping the pinky and ring back into the curve of the pommel. a least it is for me in the 1852 NOS. Like to find a way to open that end up just a little. Think it is manganese bronze and I am not sure slow prizing would not break the hilt. Thoughts on that??

The only restriction on one hand wielding with this is for me is the guard makes it tight on my index knuckle, but I'm either going to cut or bend it there. it also weilds decently with the French grip.
The claws are getting moved or clipped. They don't hit me but they get in the way of 2 hand assit grips on the handle itself, not a big deal to a saber purist but to me since the swords handle is long enough, I 'll mod it to do this better. One handed it will have great protection, allow basket hilt guards and wards and a little more ass weight for better balance, but I'll be able to do 2 hand assisted power cuts and clearing and a pommel with icepick protrusion for close quarters.
I see a lot of fruit, meat, bone and tatamae falling to this thing. I can see taking it as a hunting sword when iron dog and I go for boar with his spear. Gig it, pin it and finish it with the sword. That would be sweet.
I like it as is except that tight spot for me in the handle, I just bought it for what I think I can do to it and most is well in my current skill set and some I was thinking of is not needed. No blade shave other than what has to be files for a back edge and I do want to etch a thin "Blood grovve" fuller and use it to mess with etching on. As it's a worksword, i can screw up on that a bit before moving on to other replicas.

A Basket hilt would probably go well with this blade, here is my shiavona Wow! Who made that Schiavona? With a curved blade even, I really like that... Would you ever sell it?
