If the stats on Kult of Athena can be believed, these DSA Herald series swords are poorly balanced, with this one being the worst: The MarquisPOB = 8.5 inches. Yikes! And the single hand Monarch sword weighs 3 lbs 2 oz with a POB at 7.13 inches. No thanks... Does anyone have one of these swords? Are those stats correct?

Someone on the SBG FB page was talking a few days ago about one he bought, I think is was a Monarch... one thing to consider though is that the Herald series are lower end DSA's made in India to their specs, so they will be lower quality than regular DSA's

So I had a chat with SBG store customer service and they said that the POB on the Marquis was 5" out. Another thing to note is that the herald line is almost $100 higher on KOA than the SBG store or DSA's website, anyone know why? Perhaps KOA measured a bad egg of the bunch when measuring the POB. Someone might shoot them a quick email to find out.

I'm certainly not trying to pick a fight, so please don't flame me. India was the cradle of nearly all martial arts. Alexander the Great did not simply stop warring, he knew he was no match for the warlords of India, and he knew his men would have mutinied had he tried to fight them - so they went home. The point is, simply because a weapon is made in India (or China or Pakistan) does not mean it is low quality. Indeed, weapons made in those places are made the old way - carefully and by hand. Hand made items are rare these days.... Again, no offense meant.

Might have been true in the past. But certainly not today, given quality control laws, materials, the availability of industrial equipment, and general business ethics.

Old Indian blades were good. Especially wootz. But consistency is something only modern techniques and high quality control give you. Even in 18th and 19th centuries, Indians were happy to import Solingen blades and mount them in local hilts. Even copied Solingen maker marks on their locally made blades.

One thing to note about the Indian forges is that when you get a good blade, it's really good. Especially at the normal prices for India made swords. However, those blades aren't exactly what you get every time you buy one. It's true that just because it's made in India does not mean the sword is trash. But the sheer amount of qc issues gives most pause. Having a blade hand forged is alright and all, but it's not exactly immediately superior to cnc blades. Albion blades are cnc machined out into a rough shape and then worked by hand to shape. And if I were to dare compare deepeeka with Albion and give the deepeeka an edge because some guy sat at the blade for a few hours smashing it with a metal block on a stick I think someone might just lynch me

Hi, this is Matt at KOA. We just wanted to say that our DSA Herald Swords are more expensive because the versions we have in stock have the integrated scabbard belts. If you go to DSA's website for its Herald Series swords and select for "blunt blade, scabbard & interlaced sword belt" you will see a matching price. The inclusion of the belt explains the pricing discrepancy.
We try to stock both belt and belt-less versions from DSA, but when we restock we will acquire what is available and in-stock at the time.
I also took out a different DSA2201 Marquis and re-measured its POB just to be sure. It had a POB of 8" However, being handcrafted these can vary.
Thank you 28shadow for assuming these discrepancies were due to an honest mistake, instead of nefarious skullduggery. Much appreciated!
Cheers to you all! - KOA

Yeah, silly me forgot that DSA models also have a $100 add on belt. Maybe myself or someone will purchase one of these so we can compare our measurements.
