Hi All, This is, I think, a rather underrepresented topic so I'm fishing for suggestions..
I'm looking for TV and Movie recommendations that feature Highlanders and swords.. particularly Baskethilts!
The obvious examples are:
Rob Roy Outlander (the last couple episodes have been almost watchable)
If I really stretch my tastes I could include Culloden (the docudrama from Prebble's book) Braveheart Highlander (katana-- sigh)
Any other examples of appearances of this fine weapon on the large or small screens?
Thanks in advance! Jake

To their credit the Outlander TV Series seems to be doing a good job representing the periods weapons.

I'm working my way through the Highlander tv series and discovered that in Season 2 Episode 21 "Prodigal Son" there is a brief, and unfortunate, flashback fight involving MacLeod using a baskethilted broadsword.
Evidently, there are a few examples left to find...

There are several movies called "Kidnapped"/"David Balfour" based on a story by Robert Louis Balfour Stephenson.

Thanks Andi.
Good call. I remember the books, but the films slipped my mind. I'll go digging for them.

I've done forcing myself to watch the entire run of Highlander: The Series. Good heavens it was bad. One good season (plus or minus 1/4 season on either side and the occasional standout episode) and so many awful 'comic relief' episodes. The Sixth season was nothing but a running audition a spin-off character and it was pretty clear that Adrian Paul was DONE with the show by season 5.
Rant aside, here's a list of the episodes where a Highland baskethilt is featured: Season 2 Episode 21 "Prodigal Son" Season 3 Episode 17 "Take Back The Night" Season 3 Episode 18 "Testimony" Season 3 Episode 21 "Finale" Season 4 Episode 1 "Homeland" Season 4 Episode 15 "Promises" Season 4 Episode 18 "Through a Glass Darkly" Season 4 Episode 20 "Til Death" Season 5 Episode 6 "Dramatic License" (flashbacks to S4E1 "Homeland") Season 5 Episode 15 "The Stone of Scone" Season 5 Episode 16 "Forgive Us Our Trespasses"
I must say, personal bias understood, that I liked the fight choreography of the broadsword fights much more than the katana fights. Sadly neither are great by any measure, but then it's unfair to expect masterwork from a cheesy 90's syndication series.
Also, how could I forget--
Star Trek Season3 Episode 7 "The Day of the Dove" Scotty and his "CLAYMORE!!" Probably the first time I saw such a sword on tv and a scene which has followed me around since I was a kid. James Doohan in all his scenery chewing glory!
Still looking for more examples.

Chasing the deer is a film about the jacobite uprising. Not the best film but not the worst either. Plenty basket hilts in it.

Hi Ado,
How is "Chasing the Deer"? The reviews are pretty bleak, but reviews are not always the best measure.

Hi Ado, How is "Chasing the Deer"? The reviews are pretty bleak, but reviews are not always the best measure. Jake Not the greatest film and the story line and acting are not Oscar winning that's for sure but it's ok. If you have a couple of hours to spare then yea give it a watch. It is kind of historical in its story about as historical as rob roy. So not bad but not amazing. I've watched it once and that is enough. Lol.

Don't forget it also has Fish from Marillion in it so high class acting levels in abundance. Lol.
