Yesterday, I cut tatami and bottles with a friend's Hanwei Sir William Marshall Sword. It had the original Hanwei low-grit polished factory edge, and yet it cut water bottles easily and then cut a tatami mat very well. I think this is only the second European sword that I have used that cut tatami well with the factory edge (the other being my Borderwatch). I have a question, though, to those of you who own this sword: What is the weight and POB for your Hanwei Marshall sword? The sword that I cut with on Monday weighed 2 lbs 12 oz and the point of balance was 5 inches from the guard. These numbers are very different from those posted on KOA, or on the Hanwei website, for that matter. They both list the POB at 7.5 or 8 inches from the guard. I just sent an email to KOA asking them to check one of these swords. If the weight and balance are like the one I cut with this weekend, I'll place an order, as I was very impressed with the performance.

I just received a response from KoA. They checked one of these swords in their inventory and it weighed 2 lbs 14 oz and had a POB of 4.75".
So, it appears that at some point the Hanwei Marshall sword's specifications changed (for the better in my opinion). I seem to recall reading that the pommel used to be hollow. If it is now solid, that would account for added weight and improved balance.

Nice cutting. I almost bought one of these years ago but the responses on it weren't so good. Looks like they did improve it for the better.
