Some years back before CS Heavy Duty Sword Cane came on the scene and wanting a better cutting blade than my sword canes offered I ordered a Hanwei Blind Fury Zatoichi Sword. I was less than satisfied and to tell the truth it remains in my sword rack collecting dust. The biggest complaint that I immediately had was the rattle, completely unacceptable. To eliminate that I used foam inside the scabbard. I took it easy at first because I was afraid that it would slide to the bottom. As that seemed to work I added more feeling if a little is good more is better. It worked for years, probably due to the lack of use of the sword. Eventually it worked its way to the bottom of the scabbard. I realized I had a problem when I noticed that the habaki started presenting itself while the blade was sheathed. I thought of several ways to approach this but decided to use a worm first as this would be the least likely way to cause damage. So I wrapped wire around a 2” wire nail secured in a vice. I then sharpened the point using a Dremel type cut off wheel in a motor tool. I made a loop type handle in the opposite end leaving as little wire exposed as possible between that and the kolguchi for maximum stiffness. It took time but I was able to remove the foam.

Heh. I have the same sword, and the same problem with it. So... I take it you would not recommend stuffing it with foam, then?

I did add a rubber tip to the saya made from shoe sole material. This helped but did not eliminate the problem. It does save the tip from damage from pavement.
