I can't figure out how to post a pic from my phone, but it's the same Hanwei oxtail that has been reviewed elsewhere on SBG. It's the one with brass fittings, not the practical cutting version.
I'll do a "personal impressions" type post when I get a little more time.
Another big thanks to all the members that put so much great info on this site. It was easy to know exactly what I was getting, even over the Internet.
I've always wanted a sword. As of barely two months ago, I had never owned one. Now I have three - a katana, a willow leaf dao and now an oxtail dao. Does this mean I now have a "collection?" Or a "problem?"

Or a "problem?" Congratulations on the Oxtail. I’d say that you had both, a collection and a problem. Aside from worrying about such things as rust, thief, fire, how/where to display, etc. The bigger and more immediate problem, if you are like most, is you will want more. There is no stopping. Hehe.

Here is a quick pic of my "collection." The oxtail's blade needed a good cleaning when I unboxed it, so I did a quick Goo Gone/Windex clean and Mothers polish on it. The brass polishes up brilliantly, but I haven't gotten to do a good polish yet. The blade is sturdier and bigger than I expected, and very nimble. It is all business. I've had the willow leaf apart and have polished it fairly thoroughly, and begun a regular mineral oiling regimen for the blade and wood. I've also done a few cuts with it - it's a nice handling blade that sails through whatever it is asked to cut. Despite the curve, the point is directly on line with the wrist, and it thrusts confidently. Very fun. The katana is untouched (so far) other than cleaning off the shipping oil and oiling the blade. It is based on a TV show or movie (Walking Dead maybe? - I don't really watch the zombie stuff) but with the fittings customized. I don't know much about the Japanese arts, so it is relegated to display for now. It is a hand forged TH 1065 pattern welded blade, though, and it asks me to cut something every time I draw it. Thanks for looking.
