I posted the how to in the custom forum, but just had to share this one with everyone. I had been dying to get my hands on a Viking Sword, and decided that I liked the pommel and guard on the Sticklestad the best. I felt that a Viking Sword would look much better with some "age" on it so I set about creating a better look for the blade. Although it is not really damascus, I etched the blade in a way that gives it a damascus-esque look. Let me know what you think. BTW - I'll be roughing up the guard and pommel this weekend to get a better aged look out of the entire sword.

That is a very cool effect you have there!
I'm working a lenticular edge onto mine and when I repolish it I was planning to have a nice satin finish... judging by how it's going so far I have a feeling it will take quite the while - I might take a leaf out of your book, get the whole surface a similar level of roughness and then antique it!

Well, I just did your lemon juice method to my MRL German Bastard. The effect wasnt quite as nice as yours but I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I didn't have any gun blue. My patterning wasn't quite as "busy" even though I treated it twice. I also used a spray bottle loaded with a salt-water and vinegar solution afterwards, to get a fine spotted pattern over top of te etched pattern. Overall it doesnt look to bad. The blade is a pretty wide hexagonal/lenticular one with no fuller and it was just to boring and shiny and this new patterning really gives it a whole new look. I think i will treat it with lemon juice again but instead of wrapping tbe blade in TP I'll lay it on top and really bunch it up to get tighter patterning. Anyway, thanks for the how to. +1
