Do I blame you, or the fact that I'm awake at 0200? My sabla is being processed.

Beautiful looking saber! Does the quality justifies the price though? Must wait for the reviews!

Were traditional Polish sabres always so.... red? (or maybe it's a Communist thing :) ) Not all of them, only the ones owned by our tribe leaders. These were melt from meteorite iron and then quenched in the polar bear blood, ya know... we still have a lot of these bears roaming our streets nowadays. (rofl)

Dammit. Dammit all to HELL. I'll save you all the trouble--avoid this one like the Plague.
By far the biggest problem is the thumb ring--which many like me wanted so bad--is so poorly situated there's no effective way to use the thing. Especially with the forward balance as it is. This is one of Cold Steel's biggest gaffes ever.
And I say that as a rebellious fan of some of their stuff. I adore their Shamshir, as well as the new Messer. I liked both the ld and the MAA Grosse Messer. I also rehilted a couple 1796's in a sort of Polish-Hungarian style, using a jerryrigged leather thumb ring. Infinitely better than what we have here.
(In fact if anyone is willing to trade me this for a CS 1796 straight up. message me.)
I doubt Cold Steel will be able to give me any surprises on that upcoming Rondel dagger that'll piss me off. Which is good. Because for the first time in a long time I'm actually livid with them.

I have no saber in my collection and the aethetics of this one really caught my eyes. How does the real thing compare to the product cover image? Could you post some pictures of it?

No way to return and exchange? Sad. I avoid CS because of their ridiculous videos, their unreasonable prices for, basically, Windlass quality stuff, and now for their recent legal shenanigans against custom knife makers (cease and desist letters to craftsmen, claiming the term "san mai" is trademarked - as if a generic term like that can be trademarked. If I had time I'd sue them for this stupidity).

OK, got over my initial reaction and put things in perspective--a bit. Keep in mind, Croccifixio, from Midway it only coses $250--shipped. I wouldn't call it exorbitant. Part of my reaction was expecting I'd get a killer deal. Instead, I got something par for the course at the price point.
Bottom line: it'd make a worthwhile project piece, with some creativity.
Because the hilt and furniture are pretty good. Like I said, the thumb ring being too far forward is a huge liability--but only because of the poor handling. (In fact my piece came in at FOUR OUNCES over even the specs. Sheesh!)
So I actually think I'm going to hang on to this one and try to make something of it. Option one, which I'll try first, is a slow and steady process of thinning out the blade at the foible end. Belt sander, and my own trick is just to make a few passes at a time, per day. You never overheat that way, and yeah, it can take a few months to get finished, but so what, it works.
If that doesn't work (or maybe anyway. Or maybe even on, gasp, a second piece): this actually would make one hell of a god hanger. I've already marked out, in concept, how I'd shorten the blade to 26 inches and it'd look great.
Indeed, if I'd paid top dollar for this, I'd still be pissed. And I am still disappointed that I didn't get a thousand dollar value for a couple hundred bucks. But making chicken salad out of seeming chicken semprini is all right too. ;) So, OK, my initial tirade, I'm over it.

$250 is still a lot of money. I wouldn't even buy Windlass pieces at KoA's price unless they were the tried and tested models. But yeah maybe that's just me being a bit of a scrooge.

And I thought I`d found a mark to slough off my CS 1796 Dust Collector onto and get a more appealing sabre in the process...
