I have a fairly substantial collection at home. making it, from my wife's point of view, a way too masculine house. I had the house & much of this collection from before we met, so she finds that she can't really object too much. In regards to our vacation homes, she finds that to be of an entirely different matter. "No weapons on any walls" - periode! The year before year I brought a couple of pieces down to our "spring & fall" vacation-house and hung them up when she was out. It was only a couple of Schwedendegens and a breast-plate from the 17. century. There was some noise, but not too bad. Last year I brought a fantastic earth-found rapier with deep rust, lovely cleaned and not a mm missing of the blade and hung it above a doorway. She was mildly pissed off, but finally accepted it. The rapier is really delightful. I got it at Hermann Historika a couple of years ago. It is really deeply pitted, but absolutely complete. The length is full, the point is even there. Fantastic! I have never, ever seen a so old & rusty sword being in such a complete & fantastic condition after all it has been through. Back to the wife & weapon problem. I have also a 1700's wheel-lock rifle and a 1600's musket I'd like to hang up to the right of the rapier and a heavy, really old sword vertically to the right of the door (before I start on the next wall - the last she does not know). Anybody have an idea how to introduce this thought in a way she would accept?

Get her interested is some kind of decoration or furniture you "don't want" and make a deal

I tries, but she is an architect with opinions that weigh much more than mine, I'm only the guy that puts up the money. Good taste according to her, is something she has kind of a monopoly on.

That kind of line will have him living at the summer home permanently. :D How about making a deal to take weapons completely out of one of the rooms in the regular house ?

I'm married with children actually, and technically I never said the line would work lol.

Well, the ting is that I have almost 1000 guns, pistols and edged weapons (including bayonets) at home, of these I have some 230 long-guns, about 100 edged weapons and almost 50 pistols & revolvers as wall-hangers. I have another 2-300 edged weapons under the furniture in the dining-room and in our basement living-room. She sort of feels like our home is just a tad too masculine for her also to be living there. She has therefor stated that out vacation houses are to be weapon free areas - or at least almost. She's great girl! And I almost accept this...
