Hi everybody,
Thought I'd post this and let everybody know that KoA is now selling replacement H/T hex nuts. These will be good for those who have stripped their originals or for those who like customizing the bare blades or even their standard models. They're going for $5.95 each plus $7.00 shipping.

Interesting. Good to hear they are finally making those available.
For about $13 a piece though... you could get better hex nuts from Ernie for a little more than half that. Assuming he has the time to make them for you, that is. I have purchased several from him over the years and the steel is tougher, better quality.

Put it in a envelope with a stamp drop in the mail and eat the .35 to send it out KOA. When my H/T nut stripped a few years ago, I simply called CASHanwei and they sent me one for free. Unless the shipping prices are helping KOA with the stocking costs I don't see the need to put a 1/2" nut in a box and send UPS Standard. I thought Ernie had closed his doors on making stuff like that?

most retailers (my website included) have automatic shipping rules for all items... unless you speak directly to the seller/retailer beforehand, you'll get the built in shipping rate.

It may do well to contact the vendors and talk about shipping. I wanted to buy a couple of the hex nuts from LG Martial Arts' store so I contacted him directly about the shipping costs and he was more than willing to cut me a reasonable deal. I'd highly recommend that anyone buying these does the same. I don't know how flexible KoA is with their shipping (Although the folks there always have wonderful customer service!), but I know Luis will work with you for sure.

I don't know what the hex nuts exactly look like but I'm sure they are all 6mm by 1.0 thread pitch, you can get those at any hardware store for probably less than 20 cents. I used a Honda 6mm x 1.0 for my tinker bastard sword, works fine, most Honda automotive nuts are hardened. I have a huge selection of them so if you all want some let me know.

This is what they look like: These are intentionally left soft, better to mangle a nut than to strip the threads on the tang in our mind. Blake

Well that clears it up, although I despise allen head bolts and nuts.

You can also use a long style 'coupling Nut', a long nut used for joining two separate bolts/threaded rod etc., you get them longer than the recess within the pommel of H/T swords. Here you must attack the nut with a grinder up to the depth of the pommel, grinding it to a round cylindrical shape, as with the original nut.
The excess un-ground part of the nut will sit on the out side of the pommel thus allowing loosing and tightening with a wrench/spanner instead of allen key, This can be ground to shorten how far out it sits along with champhering the very high sharp edges for comfort.
Once down and adjusted you don't notice it, but still be enough sitting on the pommel for easy use.
