I always wanted a shield but my problem is that I'm left handed and it's hard to find one that I can hold with my right hand. Round shields are my best option but the some of the ones I can afford I don't like the hand grips, so I decided to make one. I used 5/8 plywood, stained the back and glued and nailed leather on the front. For the handle I cut up a tool belt and put a 5/8 dowel in the middle and wrapped it with cord, then wrapped it with leather. I haven't painted the front yet. I stained the plywood dark walnut and dyed the handle and belt mahogany. The pad I used a garden knee pad, glued and nailed leather over it.

Noice, I'd like to try a shield. Is 6lb a typical weight for a shield do you know?? +1 for a crafty design.
Are they juggling thingies?

Cool looking shield. Are you going to put a design on it?
Oh, and what are those things to the right of your shield?

Yeah I'm going to put a design on my shield. I'll post pics when I do
They are Indian clubs. An ancient work out equipment made for warriors. They been in India for about 5000 years and believed to have come form Babylonia. When Brittan colonized India they had their soldiers start using them and they brought them to America. In the 1800 and early 1900 the military and gyms where using them.

Nice, and 6 lbs is a very good weight.
Are you planning to do any fighting with it?
