Hello all.
I have an original 1906 US Cav sabre in the post. Since I have the Windlass 1906, am looking forwards to comparing them. However, the new acquisition does not have a scabbard.
As such, I was considering picking up the Windlass 1860 LC sword and just using its scabbard for the 1906. My question is would it fit. I know that the Windlass 1860 is a bit thinner in stock than the 1906, but maybe there is enough wiggle room to make it work. DOes anyone have any experience with this and/or happens to own both Windlasses and would like to give it a try on my behalf?
Thanks
- Alex

Related Question; what's the curvature of a Windlass 1860 compared to a Spanish 1895?

If the 1860 scabbard is like the 1840 scabbard, I'd say there would enough space with a bit of mouth filing. How much taper does the 1906 have?

Related Question; what's the curvature of a Windlass 1860 compared to a Spanish 1895? I have a scabbard-less 1895 (which I suspect is your situation too), and no, it will not fit in a 1860/1906 scabbard. At least not the Windlass one. Been there, done that.

An original 1906 should fit an original 1860 scabbard. The issue is that the taper on the Windlass 1860 is different, so the original 1906/1860 may not fit in the Windlass 1860 scabbard, depending on how much wiggle room there is

All I can contribute to this rather confusing juggling with model numbers, is that the repro scabbards do not have the wooden liners the old ones have. Guinhut stuck a Weapon Edge scabbard on an M1854 for me and it fits to a tee. There being no liners should give you lots of room. Filing of the mouthpiece might be in order, but the main worry would be the curve. Remember my P1821 export Portuguese....

Don't know where he sources his scabbards from, but they all work. 85.00 for the 1860LC. These work. I've bought 5 from him and used on US and French models. No wood liners. Some filing of the mouth may be required for different models.

Does he have something for the standard M1822, with 2 rings? I have that M1822 Donne Par le Roy. It needs a scabbard.

Afoo: I have one (though will need some cleaning). I can post it down for you if you want to see if it fits.

Throat and drag may need some touch up. but with some car you'll get a snug fit. I have three of them for 1822s and 1840s. Same goes for the US M1840 Arty sabre. It is a perfect match for the french M1829; as the US is a direct copy of the French.
