Just wanted to show off two of my Black powder handguns. The revolver is a Colt 2nd gen. First model Dragoon. The pistol is one i made from spare parts in my shop. It is a percussion conversion in .54 caliber. Hand carved maple stock and a chunk of an old rifle barrel. Thanks for looking. Andy

You made that second pistol? I'm impressed.

Sweet handgun, great job on making the percussion cap one, have you fired them. BTW can you help with a question? If I wanted to have a handgun shipped from Mass to Georgia do you know if it's legal. It's a boxlock pocket pistol it's from about 1820.Kind of like if you shipped yours if you ever sold them.I love your Dragoon some serious fire power.

AFAIK, as long as youre correct with the date, the pistol you're referring to is considered a curio&relic item, and as such is not classified as a firearm by the BATFE. You should be able to send anywhere, however you like.

Very nice. I've thought about getting an 1858 Remington but have never gone through with it.
As an FYI to Buliwyf and anyone else looking for this information, antique (made before January 1, 1898) and black powder firearms are not regulated by the Gun Control Act and therefore can be shipped door-to-door.

I like the Colt, but your shop build is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words guts. I made the pistol in about a month ... lots of "Infantry language" used used in getting the parts to fit right. I wanted a pistol to match my Hawken copy but couldn't afford one , so I made one instead. The load used is 40 grains of 2f and .15 patch and a .530 round ball ... does pretty good out to 25 yards or so. Andy

Federal law doesn't regulate the antique firearm shipments, but remember that some states may. I believe a few east coast states and possibly Illinois have started treating cap and balls and maybe some other smoke poles as firearms.
And of course black powder is considered an explosive so don't just toss in some cans. Pyrodex is ORMD I believe.
