Hey all, I've heard mention of a steel blueing kit called perma blue. Just wondering if anyone knows if this stuff works any good or if anyone has used it and has any pictures of the effects(i.e. your finished project). Thanks all.

Yeah I use it and it's good. As soon as you apply it the steel goes blue, then black. If you leave it for ten minutes it will be rusty. Just buy the kit with the degreaser, and follow the instructions. The sword below has the blade perma-blued, while the cross and pommel are heat blued.

I used perma blue on the shrewsbury hilt in the thread below this one. 3 applications and polished with a cloth in between to even the stuff out. Works pretty good imo.
EDIT: The surface stays pretty shiny so a camera flash will bounce off it pretty much like naked steel;as a result pictures don't do the stuff justice. -It's a bit darker than it looks in some of the pictures.

You can get several different looks from the stuff. If you blue first in certain places, then later all over, it gives one the ability to place designs in the finish.
