Thanks for the review. I wonder why Windlass went with the straight design as there does not appear to be a historical precedent for this sword to be straight rather than curved. In the French sword world, straight and saber go together fine as they use the term for both straight and curved single edged swords. It makes me wonder if windlass based this model off a French blade by mistake?

We don't know the rules and they ain't tellin. The french only took one whack at a pipeback; that was the 1816 LC sabre/ It was a total bust, for all the usual reasons for poorly conceived pipe backs.

Was the third bar on the hilt bent like that when you got it? Or is it just the lighting or something making it look like that.

I have a Windless Dragoon. I thought it would go with my 1847/1848 Uberti Whitneyville/Hartford Dragoon hand cannon.44 cal,50 grains black powder, and 6 shots of fun. Thanks for the comparison and info on the 1833. Mine is hanging on my wall in the living room. Gives the room some class.

As stated in the text, the year I purchased it, there appeared to have been a bad series of hilts issued from the source. Windlass went ahead and issues them for sale. ( Don't think this is like the upside down plane on the 2 cent stamp; not expected to be a rare, profitable antique.)

Original VG condition dragoons with scabbards tend to run around 1K. Was a shopping fluke that landed me an original.

Always love your posts! Ooh...ohh..now do the British Royal Horse Guards 1832 Officer Dress...I just picked up the Universal model from KoA and love it. Seen a few pictures and at least 1 original for sale. Visually, Johdpur does a nice job on these. I have the the 1875 Household Heavy Cav sabre and it looks spectacular with it's dress guard liner insert and bell knotted sword knot. But the components are too bulky, compared to the originals. Enjoy it. But I won't be going down that road.

Dave I need to get sword knots for all my sabers, but I'm knot (had to do it) sure how to go about matching the sword to the knot. And then the best place to obtain them, can you help?

Did you get the Munitions Grade 1832, or the proper one? I got a Munitions Grade French Hussar (which I still need to write up on - one day...), and was sorely disappointed by the warping in it. Seems like there is a lot of variability in what they deem Munitions

As an asides, KoA now has an 1833 from Universal. Stats on the blade seem off compared to the original still, but at least the profile of the tip looks much closer than the Windlass kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=USS187
