SO, I got a Munitions grade French Hussar sabre from KoA, which I have mentioned elsewhere. Its a decent sword, but the blade is not aligned with the rest of the grip, being off-axis by 5-10 degrees. Fortunately for me, the tang appears to have been threaded on, and then ground down to make it look peened. I suspect that I will be able to unscrew it and re-mount the blade properly. However, I also suspect that there is a whole whack load of epoxy down there (you can see that stuff is already filling the gaps around the nut head). This gives rise to my question - what is the best way to remove epoxy from the inside of the handle without damaging the leather or the wood core? Thanks!

well, KOA says it's peened. At least that's wrote there.
And even if not, i think it's impossible to remove it without damaging it, if it's glued that much. As far as i know you can only remove epoxy with heat and that will damage some parts of the grip.

Hmm. Still hoping its a screw pommel. The image disappeared from the original post, but here it is again. It looks like it may be threaded, so I will try that first. You can see the faint outline of what looks like a thread in the middle.

eh, I am not set up for major sword work where I am now. I will try unscrewing it because I have no other choice. If it doesn't work, its pretty much useless to me, since I do not have the facilities nor the leather working expertise to make new grips (was hoping to re-use the ones from the sword).
Anyways, from what you guys have posted, its not as easy a job as I had anticipated. Thanks for the input. As I said, I will continue on my chosen path for the reasons outlined above, but at least my expectations for failure will be more reasonable :P
Also, on that note, severely disappointed with the KoA Munitions Grade stuff. I mean, the description does specify various bends and twists in the blade etc. Previous experiences were not this bad though
