Sonny at Valiant Armory latest creation, a slightly customized Hjalmarr. This may be my next sword after his Suontaka. Still no Suontaka. Overall length 36 3/4 inches Blade length 33 inches Blade width at guard 2 3/8 inches Handle length 3 3/4 inches Weight 2 Lbs. 15 oz. Center of Bal. 5 3/4 inches. 1060 High Carbon Spring Steel I think we have a winner here.

I love that blade. I think I'm gonna get a custom Norman with the Hjalmarr blade.

Don't know if Sonny can or would do a mix and match sword but you have nothing to lose by asking him. If the tangs are different sizes he probably can't.

Well hey good for you, Sonny is an easy guy to work with. For me it would be sacrilege to use a Viking blade on anything but a Viking sword, but hey that's me. Odin would slam the gates of Valholl in my face if I did it.

I've looked that Hjalmarr and it's so nice. I like it very much, and I think it might be the next viking sword I will buy. Not sure if I can get it this year but hopefully next year then.

Sonny's work just keep getting better each year. The Hedemark was nice but the Hjalmarr and Norseman are so much better. I can't wait to see and order his Suontaka.

The Type VIII hilt were used toward the end of the Viking Age when the culture was becoming more mixed with European influence. I'm a purist and like the more traditional Viking design. But hey, that's just me.

But hey, that's just me. Fair enough. I've always indentified more with the Anglo-Saxons anyway, so you know.... Get outta my island, northman!

Sonny put a Templar pommel on a Kriegschwert for me and it turned out great. The Suontaka project caught my eye too. I really like all of the new VA viking swords.

Just curious - are there any pics of Sonny's Sountaka anywhere?

I'd forgotten how nice the blade on Sonny's Suontaka looks. Hopefully we'll actually see it in production some time in the near future.

I keep throwing hints at him on his Facebook page but nothing yet. Which reminds me it might be time for another one. The only problem is if I bug him too much he might send me my Suontaka twisted up like a pretzel.
