My Father got this on Iwo Jima in WW2,, it was never used and has been in our family ever since then.. It has everything to it, even a sachel with tallis to keep the whole sword in. A number of years ago the handle became loose and now I can remove the handle from the shaft. It looks to me I need a small post to place through the handle that will re-connect the handle,, but I'm at a loss of where I'd find something like that or if I even can.. Any Directions?

^^^ Yep. Then sand it down to fit the shape of the hole in the handle. The hole may be hidden by the wrap on the grip.
If that is a picture of everything you have, you seem to be missing part of the handle: the fuchi. It is a metal collar on the top of the grip where it meets the tsuba (hand guard). It would cover the exposed wood at the top of the grip.
EDIT: Oh, is that it in front of the tsuba?

Thanks for the links and Info folks.. I'll have a extra bamboo piece now. Your correct that I can not see any hole in the handle, that's what had me concerned, the 3 metal flowers seem to line up with the hole in the shank so I was confused and don't want to do any damage to it. All the parts are there,, but since the handle came off I just slipped them back on the shank so I didn't loose anything.. I'll keep you posted on what I do so I don't mess anything up

Ok, the flower ornament (menuki) looks like it may have slid forward. If it is loose enough to slide, you may try to scoot it back down so you can access the hole from both sides.
