I just posted a review on MRL concerning their Oakeshott XIV sword and notice a $95 price tag. W/ discount that is $85.50. I don’t know you long that will last or if it’s intended. Enjoy and Merry Christmas.

I think that's on purpose, as is says while supplies last. Either way, its a great deal. And I just ordered the falchion... Oh well. Also, its under holiday sale

Thanks for the tip. I'm mostly a 19th c saber guy, but it's tempting....

I love 19thC Sabres, (Jist bought a personalized cavalry sabre from Windlass) and I must also say, du et. (Side note - anyone else reminded of the swords the Gondorian Foot soldiers used by it? I am.)

I think the only thing I might regret about it is not getting it sharpened. (Accusharp purchase time maybe? Lol)

Afoo, might it not be a bit redundant to our Hanwei sidesword? Also, the tiny voices in my head are telling me I've spent too much money of late (as hopefully will become evident in an upcoming sword review / new acquisitions post )

For some reason my experience with Accusharp and swords has been less than satisfactory while it works fine with one machete (which is quite different than the others) and my kitchen knives. I almost didn’t get my Oakeshott XIV sharpened but decided to be lazy and went ahead and had them do 19”, I am glad to say. I’ve only had mine a short time and already have a love affair going. My budget said that I was sworded out for the year but decided what the heck and went with the DoD. You got an even better deal.

Any other sharpeners you can recommend?

Sorry, I have nothing to recommend other than patience. Lately I’ve used a whetstone to start, then 220 wet/dry paper going down to 1500 or finer. All with WD-40 oil and with the paper a somewhat compressible backing such as a mouse pad. I find it a time consuming project and often use the vendor’s service to get me started and save time. Depending on the edge and what I looking for I sometimes strop at the end. If you like mirror finishes, I don’t, you might bring metal polish into play at the end. I used it to remove Windlass’ trade mark and it matches the factory polish.

Just rec'd an email so they are still in stock. Great little sword at the regular price, excellent deal at $ 95. They also make great custom project swords.

Ya. MRL doesn’t even mention them in their listing any more. I feel fortunate that I bought mine when I did although I had exceeded my annual sword budget and nearly didn’t order. It stays on my wall for the most part and I exercise with my 4.7 lb (w/scabbard) bastard sword to build strength. That works making all other swords feel lighter and easier to handle. I thought the XIV would be around longer because of all the good press I kept hearing. I really lucked out this time.

Mine just arrived today, couldn't be happier with it! (Slightly regret not ordering sharpening though ) Also a but heavier than a thought it'd be, but definitely feels nice and powerful.
