I am a sucker for old Windlass models, so since this one turned up I am willing to go for it. I would like to ask forum members with old Windlass catalogues to try and find the name of this model and the date of production. As the grip reminds me much of the Windlass Military Sword Rapier. I think it is from about the time that one came out, so around 2000? I looked at KOA and MRL through the Way Back machine, but could not find anything. Any help is greatly appriciated. Thank you very much. Cheers.

Told Uhlan already: I have catalog 69 of 2001. There are three bone handled rapiers in the catalog but they are all light weights. No full baskets. That's a great find.

Thank you very much. Cheers Hey Ulahn, I was looking through my old Windlass catalogs, and specifically at the very first one I received, # 58. I can't say for sure what exact date it is from, but I think its maybe 2000 or 2001. I found the sword you've pictured. Its called the Ring-Hilted Sword Rapier, item # 1-162. The description says the hilt is of camel bone, and weighs 3 lbs. That weight seems kind of light to me, seeing as how huge that basket with all those rings is! Buyers also had the option of buying one with a schlager blade. Original cost was $250, schlager blade was $150. Perhaps most importantly, its says its based on a sword rapier featured in the book "Deadly Duels." Doesn't say the author. Like you, I'm also a sucker for older Windlass weapons. I'm still looking desperately for some I've wanted for a long time. Congrats on your find there! Anyway, hope that helps.

Hmm...just re-read Mr. Kelly's post. If he says issue # 69 is from 2001, then maybe my # 58 and this sword is a couple years earlier than that. I have no way to tell for sure, though.

Thank you tancred. What you found is close enough and now I have a name too! The RH Sword rapier and my Military Sword rapier are from about the same time I think. I was counting on a long wait for answers. This is a huge surprise. Thank you all for the uplifting comments. As soon as this rapier is in my hands I will do a review.
Cheers

You're welcome, Ulahn. No problem. I needed to find a new place for my old catalogs anyway. Out of curiosity, I looked up "Deadly Duels" in the book section of Amazon, and couldn't find a direct match. Maybe it was a movie or documentary MRL was referring to.
Looking forward to your review, and I hope the rapier is an excellent one!

Well, I just Googled ,, Deadly Duels'' and lo and behold: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002VEYZE?*Version*=1&*entries*=0Featuring Stacy Keach. Dated 2004, but it could be a digital re-release of an older and cleaned up VHS video from the time Stacy Keach still had his star status. He was very popular before the cocaine affair terminated his career. Yes, I think this is the one. I do not see Windlass hanging a design on some obscure made for tv effort featuring a Holywood pariah. It must have been quite a seller at the time, before 2004.

Stacy Keach did the narration. I liked it.

Thank you for the information edelweiss. So, the date the rapier came into the catalogue must have been 1998. Anyway not much later since most of the public would have forgotten the connection. The Windlass Military Sword rapier came on the market about that time too. See: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/43071/windlass-military-sword-rapier?page=1&scrollTo=596996As for Stacy Keach, I still like his role as ,,The Original Bad Bob the Albino'' in Judge Roy Bean. Saw that movie for the first time around 1999. I hope to do the review Thursday next week, Edit: The review is up at the Reviews Section.
