I have the Robin Hood sword made by Windlass. Got it from Museum Replicas on Black Friday a while ago for like $89. t currently hangs on my wall but was thinking about redoing the grip. I was also wondering if anyone has ever taken it apart an what the tang looks like. Thoughts?

This is the only thing I've ever found,
It's actually a video review of the Sword of Tancred, but aside from different grip they're the same sword. His main complaints were the thinner tang and threaded construction. William Swigger had the Godfrey Sword which has the same hilt assembly and he never had problems and said it wasn't a bad sword. Honestly the tang doesn't look bad in the video above, seems he's just not a fan of threaded pommels. It is a decent breakdown video if anything.

I knew it was threaded but wondered how the tang appeared and it looks alright, I mean it is not horrible in my opinion but it is threaded therefore it will not look like a peenned offering from Windlass like the Classic Medieval sword for example.

I have the sword of tancred. Its not a bad sword at all. Its held up pretty well. I think the pommel is epoxied onto the threaded portion of the tang. I cant move it under my own strength. Basically the robin hood is the same sword with different fittings.

I have the Godfrey sword what looks like has the same blade as the Robin sword. I love the blade, but the screw on pommel is a no go for me to cut with. The threats are going to snap when used on hard targets because they are very thin. But the blade it self is very nice and could function as a great project piece.
Before i bought it i asked MRL about the tang, the anwsered that they didn't have any complaines about it. But i had a 7mm screw on pommel snap during training on an old DSA blade that i used for training. Thank god i glued the handle and crossguard to the tang, otherwise it could have gone differtly.
So no more screw on pommels for me, only peened or a good hexnut construction where the pommel slides over the tang.

I used my Windlass Godfrey Sword to trim a large tree. I cut through some fairly thick limbs, and basically abused it. The pommel became loose, but I simply put a rubber washer under it, tightened it and went on. No big deal. I have a lot of faith in the strength of this sword, and would trust it for hard use. I used several Windlass swords to trim trees, and I've stopped paying attention to those who dismiss Windlass quality simply because it's a Windlass. All my swords are relatively new, though.

Hi Lord Savage, I wouldn't be too concerned over the tang, especially from an 89$ sword. The important thing is that you like the sword (aesthetically at least). It certainly won't be a quality piece at that price point, but for the price quality ratio, I think windlass makes some decent pieces.
