Have a bit of a dilemma

not sure if I should purchase this jian from aliepress

What do you want from a jian?

I wouldn't buy this one; I don't like the octagonal blade. I also wouldn't buy the Jade Lion gim at the current price (would if it was sufficiently cheaper). If you're after fancy, I'd recommend the Jade Lion, because it has a more authentic-style blade, and doesn't have the overtly modern pommel nut.

There is also the question of construction. If this sword is only held together by the small pommel nut, that's not so good. If the pommel nut only holds the pommel on, and then there is a larger nut under the pommel holding the sword together, that's better.

I don't really fancy the Han Jian, where it is usually found, but I would really enjoy having such an exquisite blade style.
