About three months ago I made a certain purchase. Had I done prior research, I would have discovered a post where Timo offered his (correct) historical criticism of this sword. I did not. But wait, it gets far worse… SO bad, it’s simply embarrassing!
The auction’s title included the words “… jian … 1095 carbon steel…”. A quick look at the pictures and I thought I was buying a gim3. Had I examined the photos more closely, I would have easily discovered it was NOT a gim3, but a dou1. But I didn’t… (by now, I ask you to please, try not laughing too loud…)
This is the item:
www.ebay.com/itm/252025638000?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
4 available, 1 sold (you guessed it! to the schmuck that’s writing this post…). After I contacted the seller, he has since added the term “dao”, but never removed “jian”.
So now I am stuck with a historically dubious dou1! Hence, my question. Since I already own the blade, I would not mind to convert it into a proper Tong4 style dou1. I thought about replacing the handle and fittings (brass or copper) with more accurate Tong4 Dynasty examples, perhaps something like this:

Can anyone point me to where I can purchase these parts and (optionally) a scabbard? Would it be cost effective as compared to a complete sword? What parameters should I consider to make sure the fit is correct (obviously the holes displacement, but anything else?)? I contacted some eBay sellers in China, but they seem to not understand what I am trying to ask.
Thanks!
