so, I got this Chinese tanto as a gift, and was wondering if anyone could translate the mei on it. It looks like the maker used an electric etching tool on it, doesn't look hand chiseled at all.

Upper one looks like a mess, 鳥 for the lower one. That would be my guess.

That upper one looks like 飛, maybe? 飛鳥, read Asuka (in Japanese; couldn't tell you Chinese), is a name used by a favorite artist of mine, but they don't make swords... Edit: Apparently it's also read "hichou" in Japanese, and literally means "flying bird." jisho.org/search/%E9%A3%9B%E9%B3%A5That's if the top kanji is 飛...
