Here is some good Kalari martial arts demonstrations. It has staff, katar, knife, sword and shield, stick, horn looking stick, sword and shield vs spear, and whip sword and shield.

Holy shi--er--my goodness, these guys are good. Some very impressive stuff.
I'm growing more and more fond of the Indian (and thereabouts) arts. They get pretty crazy, but every movement does something. Amazing skills these guys have.

Not to bad at all, looks very effective although some of it looks more like showmanship which is understandable, they have amazing reflexes.

Pretty neat. I don't like how they move their shield back when they attack though. They are either attacking or defending...when they could be doing both.

Different strokes for different folks cold, the way they block with their shields and the way they move their bodies dictates the way they move their shields and weapons. Don't forget that this isn't medieval combat this is honest to goodness combat that is still used today and is very effective.

So are you saying that medieval combat isn't honest to goodnes real combat?!? I'm sorry, but if I had a shield and a sword in my hands and was fighting for my life, I would use BOTH at all times. I have two hands, I fail to see why using just one at a time is ever a good idea. I also have feet, knees, elbows and a head butt if needed and you bet I'll use all of those as well.

Well medieval combat was, what we are practising today? Not so much. Using both at the same time, how much sword combat have you done Cold? With sword and shield? Different combat styles have different requirements, many of the chinese martial arts use one hand at a time even though they have elbows and feet and stuff.

Didn't you just go on in the dagger fighting abou using your hand and feet and stuff?
As for using a sword and shield...I have been in 1 fight with actual swords...no shield. I have been in over a dozen where I have used a stick using sword techniques...and sometimes I have access to "shields" in the form of things like trash can lids or broken bar stools. I even had a proper shield in one of those stick fights. I'm not sure why you seem to have a distaste for WMA, but it can be relivant. I know people who have used longswords using what they learned from talhoffer, myers or fiore to protect their homes and loved ones (yes california sucks sometimes to live in and in some areas using a gun for self defense is quite impossible).
And I'm not saying those guys aren't doing something amazing...just pointing out something that can be a weakness. Just like all styles, they have strengths and weaknesses. I tend to focus on the latter because that is how I fight. I focus on the weakness and exploit it.

Could you explain this part? Like how you got into a fight with swords (unless you mean you had the sword and the other guy had something else).

No we both had katanas (well sorta...mine was a wall hanger). It didn't end well. I gashed his arm and let him run off, he shot me later with a .38 . You know that old chinese curse...yeah...

Cold: Have you actually done WMA or knife combat courses or have you just been involved in a lot of sheer idiocy? Because if you haven't been involved in some actual training then I'm not sure how much of what you say I can actually connect with. I have spent many years doing knife based combat and unarmed combat and even teaching both and a lot of what you say seems to have no basis in any system that I have experienced and I have experienced most of them. Also a lot of what you say sounds like idiots trying to cut each other to pieces which is not knife or dagger combat.

I have done knife fighting training in hap ki do and gook su won when I was young. I have done JSA at that point as well. So yes I have had formal training...and that is what I used at the start. Then I picked out/developed what works better for me in real fights for my life. Since I'm still around after all those fights I assume I did something right. I haven't done any WMA when I was young...which is why most of those fights are with sticks instead of swords. I have been very careful not to do the idiocies of youth my again . Yeah rich, bored smart teenagers = bad....oh so bad.
