I just broke my edc folding knife. I was in the yard with my dogs playing fetch, when a coyote runs out of nowhere, full speed towards my dogs. I slipped my edc out of my pocket, flipped it open and threw it at the darn thing while yelling at it. The knife handle hit the coyote in the head, scaring it away, and the knife blade spun off and stuck into a nearby tree. After I made sure my dogs were OK and put them away, I pulled my knife out of the tree. The tip was badly bent and the handle scales popped apart. I guess that's what I get for using a pos Chinese made knife as an edc. Can anyone suggest a good knife to replace it?

A few questions: what's your budget, what's the max blade size for your area, and do you like full straight blades, or semi serrated blades? There's a literally thousands of knives avaiable for EDC, but once you can answer the questions above, it'll help narrow down recommendations.

Preferably under $100, I like full straight blades because they are easy to sharpen, and there is no legal carry limit that I know of in Indiana.

A couple more questions - Made in China (Taiwan) or Japan bother you (authentic, not talking about clones or counterfeit knives)? Or do you prefer them made in the USA?

I don't mind so much where it's made, as long as it's over good quality.

I prefer the Benchmade Griptilian line. It's outstanding. The have a full sized one and a Mini line, and come in several blade shapes, steels and colors.
The Spyderco Manix 2 G10 is a great, tough knife. Kind of heavy though.
Also, Cold Steel's Recon line is known as being great, tough knives.
Kershaw Blur is really nice, and comes on different blade shapes and steels.

OK, here's a list of my recommendations: Benchmade mini Griptillian Benchmade full size Griptillian Boker Plus CLB Subcom Titanium Knife Boker Plus Nano Folding Knife Black Frame Lock Boker Plus Nopal Knife Buck Knives Vantage Pro Knife Cold Steel Tuff Lite Folding Knife CRKT Ken Onion Swindle Flipper Knife Kershaw Blur Kershaw Cryo G-10 Kershaw Echelon Assisted Opening Knife Kershaw Speedform II Folder Pocket Knife Spyderco Ambitious/Persistance/Tenacious/Resilience Spyderco Native FRN Folding Knife
I think all of them are still in the sub-$100 range I know the list is a little long, but tried to give you a selection of styles and companies.

I would highly recommend Sanrenmu. They make an excellent knife and in plenty of styles and sizes. I've been carrying the 710 for a long time and I'm never without it. I use it for everything and anything and after all this, the black tini coating still hasn't rubbed off. I strop the edge every once and a while to keep it honed and I've never had to disassemble it to add locktite. A very dependable product for under $20. They have them on Amazon but also on ebay and usually with free shipping. This is the one I carry More on ebay

I wouldn't tusth a $20.00 kinfe, go with a spyderco, benchnade, or cold steel and you wil be ok. These are the 3 brands I use at least. Should there are other just as good. One of these days I would like to get a Al Mar.

I have to agree with Driggers, matter of fact, spyderco and cold steel are the only knives I can justify hundreds of dollars of money for folders.

I've been looking into these knives some more, and I'll probably get two or three. A couple cheap ones and a more expensive one. One of the knives will be the Sanrenmu F1-723. I'll probably end up going cold Steel for a more expensive folder, because I like their knives. By the way, has anyone made a comparative folding knife review? I could probably make one, though I only have about $100 I can spend, due to the five swords I bought this month.

I'm thinking of getting the CS Finn wolf. Does anyone have this knife?

In folders, based on personal experience I'd recommend Kizlyar.

That's a beautiful folding knife that you linked to. Where can I find one like that? Also, do they sell a smaller knife that can be used as an edc?

That's a beautiful folding knife that you linked to. Where can I find one like that? Kizlyar USA, for one. You can probably find better prices with other retailers, though; google for "Kizlyar Sterkh folder" (they also make a fixed blade version). Sure!

I really like their folders. Unfortunately they are too expensive for me right now, but I will definitely purchase their knives in the future. Thanks for bringing kizlyar knives to my attention.
