Due to the appalling Canadian-us exchange rate, I have been looking a bit closer to home for my sword buying needs. One company' which I have revisited as a result was military heritage. Since I last looked. They brought out a "95th rifles" saber, which is like a regular saber with no fuller. Interestingly, I dun know of a corresponding universal sword model. Maybe they have started looking at other suppliers? Interesting, tho not necessarily good www.militaryheritage.com/95thriflessword.htmAlso, not sure what to make of this. Looks like the universal 1845 sword, but the grip is a different materiall, and the blade is shorter. Odd. May consider looking into it (they are only a 10 minute drive from my place after all)... www.militaryheritage.com/images/1822%20light%20cavalry%20sabre_1.jpgThoughts?

When I was starting up I tried for a year to do business with these folks. Like 800-1000.00 order. Got some nasty prices on sword knots, but had stuff I couldn't get anywhere else. Went so far as to make an 80.00 phone call to try and get the orders to work. Conversation was sociable and info was completed. I never heard from them again.
That was a long time ago. See the web site has had a lot of work done. Maybe the order process even works now. You used to have to fax him the order in two parts. If the second part with the rest of the cc didn't come thru, he didn't email you back to complete the order, just threw it away.
(After five years I still get pissed about it...)
All that notwithstanding, if you have the opportunity to just drive 10 minutes to get to a store front, you'd be crazy not to be crazy and taking the trip. If half of what's on the website is for public display it will be a hoot to see it all.
Lot of it is Universal's stuff. Has other sources.
By all means go. I want a full report... :)

I will try to visit - though from their website their Ottawa facility looks like a warehouse/office building, with no actual store. Not sure how much I would see by visiting them. Though at the very least, I can always march down if there is an issue with getting orders in (and save on shipping)
What do you make of the swords? They *almost* look like the Universal ones. Not sure if I want to pay that much for one of those things if it is a Universal product...
Dun suppose there is anything you want from them?

Aaaarrrgggh! Get thee behind me, Satan!
Sword Knots!
But 2015 is closed. Soon as I pay for the Earl.
Call them first and ask. Even if it's a warehouse they might have a display area or give you a tour.
Like I said, most of their swords are Universals. Don't care how much they deny it.
Prices are high, but you don't pay shipping and customs directly so there still must be an offset. If not go back to KoA and ebay.

Yeah - the lack of shipping and exchange rate is a big draw. If the grips are fishskin and not leather, I might still go for it
If you give me a list, I can grab some knots for you. Their prices don't neccessarily reflect the current US-CAD exchange rates, so could be a good deal if I buy them for you using the local currency and you pay me back using the USD equivalent

Afoo, my goldfish minded friend, you made a good find there. I want that 95 rifles. Looks like a 1796 LC. Flat blade, so it must weigh a ton without taper. Although Universal did a better job of that with the Princess of Wales. If you go there, please check it out? Maybe write this down and stick the note to your brow with some gum?

So its a more over-built version of an over-built 1796 repro....and you *want* that? Strange person you are....
No reply from them as of yet - perhaps they are more goldfish minded than I am

Strange person you are.... 900g, about the same as a 1796LC trooper's sword, and 100-200g lighter than most 1796 repros. It's a tulwar blade with a P-hilt!

Yes, it looks rather naked, but the rest of the package looks very good. 900 grams means it has some taper. I'd love to have the original and I have seen some on Ebay over the years, but even in a bad state they fetch mucho $$. What looks like plating of some kind on the hilt and scabbard parts worries me, though with some Drano that will be gone in a jiffy. Also could stick a Prussian Artillery blade in there. Oh man, here I go again.....
