Finally had a chance to pick up a project that I felt would look nice with a lacquered bo-hi, seeing as I love the look but NEVER see anyone doing it let alone on blades that most of us can afford lol Being that most of the ones I have seen are nihonto, I took this project into my favorite direction, making new things look old and antique while still being beautiful :) The nakago on this project was too long for me to correctly place the end knot, so it's reversed but there wasn't much I could do. I also still plan on freshening up the saya as well :) I'll have more pictures up soon, still have a little bit of polishing work left to do on the blade and it's been almost none stop raining for the past day or two so getting pictures outside has been tricky lol Fresh tsuka-maki in brown silk, I may still lacquer the ito slightly New larger silver dragon menuki to replace small gold dragons from original Aged the original samegawa Lacquered bo-hi in deep red lacquer Added an antique grey silk sageo to better compliment the overall look

Dude, this looks great and Meijin is one of the best looking pieces that Hanwei has ever produced. Can't wait for some more pics, especially with the whole blade.

Looks good! I'm actually planning on having the bo-hi in my crazy wakizashi / naginata mount lacquered red. If I had any katana with bo-hi I'd give it a go, it is a cool look. If you give the seppa a quick wash with something like a birchwood casey and then polish the high spots it would emphasize the ridges a bit and maybe get you a little more weathered / relic'd looking. Just a quick application so you're darkening the low spot to accent details and not actually blackening, although that might be cool too.
Nicely done.

Thanks guys!!!I'll deff be playing around with the seppa, I had to clean these up because they were all green lol The meijin has always been one of my favorites, and now with it in hand I can see why it was in the iai series :) I'll be working on this more today so hopefully I can get some pictures up tonight :) Sal'
