Just a quick note to say, I got a Gen2 Henry V prototype from Clyde last weekend. It's a nice in the hand as it is in the photos. The pommel and guard seem mostly perfect as compared photos of the original. The blade is very nice, and it actually an evenly tapering exhibits hollow grind geometry. The tip is quite sharp and the whole blade is very rigid.
I compared it to my Arms&Armor (non-hollow ground) version and I must say this one seems like it would be a closer match to the original. It's much more substantial somehow, but it still handles very well.
It's hard to describe how it feels. But I guess I'd say that it feels like "I should be wearing full plate armour and fighting in close quarters on a field somewhere in France. Bearing down on an armoured opponent, coming to grappling distance and ripping into his armour gaps, then wrestling him to the ground in a bloody heap." It just gives you that feeling somehow...
The heat treat seems well done. I did an edge flex test, flexing the edge against a brass rod until some deflection was apparent, and the edged returned to true.
Clyde and Jason at AoV thought it would be only a fair cutter at best. Probably not even that good. But I cut up a tatami mat with it, just after warming up with my MRL Ulfberht. The Henry V cut single mats equally well, though with slightly more seeming power and a little less finesse. But it isn't nearly as sharp as my Ulfberht so it isn't a totally valid comparison, as the Ulfberht should have outcut it considerably. Oh and uh... it makes horizontal cuts through single mats without any problem, both from the strong side and the weak side. (Tsafa ;D)
For such a short, thick, rigid, not-very-sharp sword to cut well on plastic bottles and single tatami mats... that speaks volumes to me. Hopefully I'll get a review with pictures and video up next week.
