I have no doubt that one will be in my collection eventually, but I am looking for one right now.
jjshade - Is the Windlass overly flexible at all?

Hey Dale,
Mind if i ask why you selected the Godfred instead of the Witham, in the Gen2 line? Are the copper diamonds a turn off?
I just ask because the Witham is quite a bit more historically inspired and seems to handle better. So it made me curious.
BTW, of the two, I'd pick the Windlass.

Shootermike - I actually chose the Godfred because I like the the relative lack of taper in the blade. It is more an item of looks but the Witham has just a bit more distal taper than I like. Otherwise, I really like the design of the pommel and crossguard. I guess it is just a personal aesthetics thing more than anything else.

Gen2 Godfred hilt is looking bad to me, very machine-made look, and the blade doesn't look very vikinglike, mostly because of the thin fuller... Windlass Norwegian looks very good to me, I'm considering buying either it or Hanwei Godfred...

Yes, it looks good and it's lighter, but who knows what, I'm not attracted to it as to the Norwegian. ;D

I have to say that I like the look of the Windlass about 10x's more than the Gen2. No wait, 50x's more!

Personal tastes will always vary, but I can tell you that I am very happy with my Gen2 Godfred.
Not sure why, but I'd say the fuller on my Godfred is slightly more than 1/3 of the blade width; noticeably wider than the fuller on the Gen2 in your picture. I also happen to like the slightly longer handle, which fits my ham fists quite nicely. Additionally, my Godfred came to me -wickedly- sharp (plus no secondary bevel) and has held its edge very well despite all my amateur attempts at cutting.
I don't have any experience with the Windlass sword, so I can't give you any sort of comparison. Despite its rough edges (pun intended) I'd buy my Gen2 over again in a heartbeat.
Gen2's new Viking sword might be a third option worth waiting for as well...

How dull are the Windlass swords when they come unsharpened? I have one heck of a sharpening kit at the house so doing the job myself is not a problem as long as it is not a super thick unsharpened edge.

The Godfred Viking has no longer been made. It has been replaced by the Eighth Century Viking sword. If you have not seen it here is the link: www.imperialweapons.com/swords/Gen2/IP-033.htmlThese are the only two Viking Swords we do, the Witham, and this Eighth Century. I hope I did not mess up your choices.

They aren't blunts Dale, just unsharpened sharps, if you know what I mean. A very doable do-it-yourself sharpening project.

I'll pay extra for sharpening cause I suck at it and always screw up the finish

Clyde - It says they have some in stock, but I will call first to check. Thanks for the heads up. BTW - I definitely wish I had the green to buy the River Witham...I have heard nothing but GREAT things about that one. Keep up the good work.

8th century does look better than the old Godfred. But I would like to see it and handle it before buying. But I don't buy anything before seeing in person and handling so... ;-)

I am going with the Windlass. I found a video on Youtube about the Vikings and lo and behold at 7:47 and 7:51 in the video, we get a look at the very sword this one was modeled after!
