I just converted a $30 shotgun scabbard into a functional safari style down draw quiver. I've tried hip, side, back and bow quivers but my favorite was always the down draw safari style. it's comfortable to walk with, doesn't get caught in the bush and the arrows don't fall out with regular movement. I shoot on my property and at the local 3d range. Had issues with all other styles of quivers but was unwilling to fork out more cash for a quiver that my bow. so I made this: open: closed: I took a shotgun sacbbard and did the following mods: 1- removed the internal padding and plastic liner. 2- added an aluminum rod down the spine, inside the liner sleeve, for rigidity. 3- split the stitching form about 3" at the bottom to about half way up the scabbard. then stitched the split end for reinforcement. 4- used the plastic liner to make "collars" for the top and bottom of the quiver. the top collar keeps it open and the bottom keeps field points from poking through the nylon. attached with spray adhesive. works great. 5- added an elastic velcro strap to close it during transport. This works awesome for 1/3 the price of a safari quiver. Molle compatible. I have an old pouch with string wax and a UV light (for finding nocks in the bush) attached to the outside. I have 20 carbon arrows in it right now. would hold 2 doz for sure.

Nice work. smart to mod a shotgun scabbard to make it. I might have to give that a try too, I have been thinking of getting the Primal Gear Tactical quiver to attach to my pack, but those cost $135. $30 for a shotgun scabbard would be a lot cheaper and if I mod like you did give me a much more functional quiver.
A little point, safari style is just another name for side quiver. Side quivers have many different names and styles such as Safari quiver, Hunting quiver, Plains quiver, Lakota quiver, etc... and sadly people often confuse hip quivers with a side quiver calling the hip quiver a side quiver. If you do an internet search of side quivers a good 50-70% of the results will be hip quivers.

Yeah, that's why I called it a safari style. Every time i mention "side quiver" people think I'm referring to a hip quiver. It gets frustrating. Especially searching the net. Gotta get a small Molle pouch for my glove, guard, and stringer.

Ah, yes I could see how you might just resort to safari quiver for that reason.
I have to say I almost went out and bought a shotgun scabbard right after reading this thread to start modding. LOL. But I am likely going to wait till after I finish some other projects I am working on. Like building a 1911 which is my main project right now. But next month I should be getting my final parts for that and so give me the chance to start a new project, and this quiver looks like the perfect project to do.
