Hey folks...
The long awaited (3 days) delivery came today. Kult of Athena is the bomb. I ordering this rapier so i could get a general idea of the quality that windlass can put out on their product and as a gift for my wife who loves fencing.
Im usually quite nervous when i receive something that im not quite sure about so i was holding my breathe while i was opening the box. The box was stuffed with the usual brown paper. Definitly enough to secure what was inside. After getting all the paper off and looking at this rapier...
...my jaw hit the floor! Now ive owned a couple of rapiers before both from windlass many years ago (10) and a del tin rapier. This brandenburg has those beat by far.
The blade is stiff and flawless. No tool marks no grind markes and its dead even in cross section the entire length. Very pleased.
The hilt is remarkable. No signs of welding and everything is aligned as they should be. Very well constructed.
The handle is made from some sort of horn. Its black with swirls of white. The wire that spirals along it is tight and cant be moved with force.
The pommel is very tight even tho its threaded onto the tang I cant budge it to break it down. Ive hit the pommel with my hand to see if anything loosens up and nope no rattles shifting or vibrations. All the vibrates is the blade and you can clearly make out the sweet spot.
Now the scabbard isnt flashy or very pretty but its matched to the rapier very well. All leather with metal throat and tip.
All in all i was very surprised for the money spent. I know windlasses qc can be crap at times but i definitely got a great product. I wouldnt hesitate to use this if i had to.

I dont really have anything bad to say about this rapier. Its light and fast. Very well balanced. My wife however says the handle does become uncomfortable after a while of using it but gloves can fix that for her. She absolutely loves it! Score one for the husband lol

Windlass does a great job with these horn and wire grips. Really, any grips with wire can benefit from wearing gloves. Although the wire on these is set in deep, the fluting adds more sharpness to the feel. I have one from a small lot they did and the horn really adds to the aesthetic. I added silver to the pommel on mine. There is a companion left hand dagger for this Brandenburg. Attachments:

I thought I had seen it on Museum Replicas. Maybe they only made a few of them. I could be certain I saw them listed somewhere.Oh well. like Japanese swords, matching sets were pretty rare.

In retrospect, I might have seen the Cold Steel main gauche for the CS shell guard rapier. I had been looking at a lot of rapiers lately. That wouldn't be a horrible compliment to the Brandenburg.
