Hey guys, I know Windlass has discontinued this sword, but Reliks and KOA list it as in stock, so I'm going to see if anyone has any experience with the Knightly sword? www.reliks.com/merchant.ihtml?pid=2884It appears to be a threaded pommel, brass, just what I'm looking for. My only concern is the blade. Is it whippy? Is it stiffer like the newer models have been? I'm not big on the hardwood grip, but it's going to go bye-bye anyways. I wish Jason had some of these in stock. Much closer, great guy and a wonderful sharpening service, but I've never seen them on AOV. Maybe it's a sign that they werent up to snuff. If anyone has had any experience with this piece, please let me know before I make the plunge. Thanks!

Hey kid, the knighlt is a recycled version of the sword of Reynald from Kingdom of Heaven, check it out: You can get the Reynald for $99 from MRL right now BTW, the reynald's blade is not whippy at all. It is quite stiff(mine is anyway)

Hey, yeah the knightly is a conglomeration of parts, the blade was used on most of the KoH line (Tiberias, Reynald, Guy, Ibelin), the grip is from the Reynald, and the guard is from the Reynald and the Guy (which I own). Not sure about the pommel but its about the same size as the one on my Guy so I think it would be safe to say they would handle very similarly. The Guy feels heavy in the hand and is slow compared to other swords of that size I own or have handled, due to the narrow and rather shallow fuller, but, I feel more comfortable using my Guy for medium to heavy cuting over any of my other swords. It just feels more sturdy when I strike something, Its never taken a set, although the pommel came loose (threaded) and I had to shim it with a washer to get the pommel to line up right again. But all in all I would buy this sword if I didn't already have something similar. *edit* and like JP Franco says, these blades are not in the least bit whippy.

I saw this the other day. I'd buy it just for the hardware. Grip might not be practical, but I like the overall aesthetic.

Brenno, the grip is surprisingly comfortable and offers offers a positive contact with the hand, it is not slippery at all. I was very surprised.

Where-as the wire grip on my Guy I find to be rather lacking in grippiness...unless I have on a leather glove. JP, do you find your Reynald a little blade heavy and tad bit slow?

I rather like my blades to be slightly blade-heavy. I know people here prefer about a 4" POB, but a nice 5-6" is where it's at for me.
JP, I hadnt noticed the similarities between the blades/furniture. But I had the feeling I'd seen the sword before. I'd buy the Reynald, but I'm really keen on the Knightly pommel. I'm very relieved to hear that it's got a stiff blade.
How is the sharpening service at KOA (it's only 199 there)? I've heard of some bad experience from Reliks, but if KOA has a decent service then I'll order it. Otherwise, I'm going to tackle sharpening it myself.
EDIT: Apparently no sharpening service is available on it from KOA. And a sharp blade isnt worth the 50 dollars extra it would be at Reliks. So I'm going to do it myself.

Howdy, I've been wanting a decent euro sword for quite a while but my budget is pretty tight. I was thinking the 99$ reynald would be a good deal especially as a project sword. One thing confuses me though. It's listed as having a 36 inch blade almost everywhere it's sold. The knightly is listed as having a 33 inch blade though. And they sure look like they have the same blade. And 36 inches is pretty darn big for a one hander like that.
So am I just overlooking something or is there a typo?
JP, you said you have a reynald, right? Could you post it's actual blade length?

It seems the Sword of Reynald has been taken off of the MRL website? If anyone can link me to it (if it's still there) that would be greatly appreciated.

The blade is 33 inches in length. Hope this helps. For what it's worth, for $99 this is a great sword. Yes it is a little blade heavy but it is a well put together sword for this price.

The pommel on this sword is threaded, I'm guessing? I could always grind the pommel to an octagonal shape... 99 dollars is too hard to pass up. I'm putting in the order. Damn your persuasiveness, JP. Damn it all!

I ordered one of these on Saturday and never got any kind of conformation email or anything. I thought they'd tell me it had been processed or something on Monday. Is that standard for MRL? If so, I don't mind I'm just used to getting some kind of notification when I order stuff online.

If so, I don't mind I'm just used to getting some kind of notification when I order stuff online. Most likely because it was over the weekend. I myself ordered it Friday or Saturday night and didnt receive my email until Monday. It arrived Wednesday (today). Unfortunately, I had to work, so I just got to unpack it and handle it for about 5 minutes before heading out the door. Overall, it's nice. I've got it taken apart now and thankfully that little ring on the end just screws into the pommel. That will not be a part of the sword when I'm done. I've thought about lengthening the tang to make up for the decreased weight of the pommel (I'm going to grind it into an octagonal wheel pommel), but I really like the grip size now. The wood used on the grip seems rather cheap. But it doesnt matter, I'm rehilting it anyways. Plus, it was 99 bucks. Can't go wrong with that. I'm just a bit sad that I can't find the scabbard of Reynald anywhere in my initial Google searches. My Fantasy Viking scabbard doesnt quite fit. Edit: Sorry, didnt even see this second page!

Hmmm I remember seeing some KoH scabbards recently....I thouhgt at MRL but just checked and no. I'll see if I can find them. Im not sure if I saw Reynald but I definitly remember Ibelin's. They're not the best scabbards anyway.....but at least they're wood core.

Actually I was thinking of doing some of the same stuff. One thing that worried me was that I didn't know if the hilt was solid brass or just plated. I was even thinking of maybe replacing the whole thing, moving the shoulders down and then peening the tang. But who knows, I haven't actually held it yet so maybe I'll actually like it as it is ;D.

you'd have to take about 1 1/4" or more off the blade to peen the tang unless you want to try peening the threaded rod thats welded on. It seems pretty strudy under normal conditions but hammereing on it might weaken the weld.
