My father is a huge fan of western films and he's turning 60 next year. Ever since he was a kid he's been dreaming of owning a Colt revolver, like the ones in the western movies. I don't understand a thing about firearms so I hope someone here can help. Me and my brother are planning on buying him, if possible a deactivated real antique revolver, or if that's not an option a good quality reproduction. I'm located in Finland and it is not possible here to own a functioning gun (without firearms license).
All help would be highly valued. Thank you.

By chance could you suggest a movie that the pistol has been in? There are two particularly famous colt revolvers that have featured in lots of westerns - one is the Colt Single Action Army ('the peacemaker') and the other (more accurately, 'others') are the Colt cap and ball revolvers - 1860 army, 1851 navy, etc. The cap and ball revolvers feature in most western movies during and immediately after the civil war, as the Single Action Army wasn't sold until the 1870s.
I believe that Finland counts blackpowder firearms in a separate category, which the cap and ball revolvers would fit into. Do you know if that would make it any easier to acquire?

You should really explore getting him into the real thing as a gift that will last. Most European countries outside of the UK make it reasonably easy to get a black powder permit. Italian companies have been making fine reproductions since the 1960's. You should check out local clubs to see what the procedures are and perhaps getting into it with him and your brother.
