Well, I've just spent a fascinating few hours reading about Edmund Burke.. one of the few politicians in history that I could possibly be brought to admire. I disagree with him on many things but what a writer! It's just a pleasure to read such eloquent stuff.
Thankyou Edelweiss, I've come across Burke in passing but that was the first time I've read him and I wouldn't have without your link. My particular area of fascination, with regards to this time period, was always the Navy, but it's impossible to understand some of the situations that lead to the engagements we all know the names of, without at least an appreciation of the politics of the period. Burke was, like Pitt or Halifax, one of the central players and his works look like an excellent way to improve that appreciation for me. Cheers!
