I have a Ronin bare blade I got from the scratch and dent sale. I want to finish polishing it but can't get the tang out of the tsuka. Any tricks? Seems like it might be "built into the tsuka" a little more than normal katanas. Is that standard for shirasaya?
If you've already driven out the mekugi, it's probably just a tight fitting tsuka. Just need to tap it off. Here's a vid that shows a nice simple tool for removing tight tsuka, it'll give you a good idea for how to remove it without damage, even if you don't have the specific tool.
Sullivan: Haha, I’m all for using whatever excuse you can for some revelry with good friends. Yeah, just, yeah...for sure avoid the combustion in areas/surfaces... bodies that can’t handle it.
